I don't know if it still happens, but up until a couple of years ago, most gaming websites, (including this one) would post reviews of games before their release. This allowed the general public to get an unbiased view of the game before making a purchasing decision. Then I remember that there was a lot of hype around Tomb Raider, Angel of Darkness for PS2. Eidos did not release the game to anyone ahead of schedule. I bought it, played it for about two hours and.....well you can guess the rest. It hasn't seen the light of day since. The title of of this thread should be "This is why we SHOULD get "sneak peaks" at games" If a developor wants to sell alot of a product then that means they have to hype it before release. And hyping a game without sharing a playable version of it shows a lack of faith in their product. It seems that the theme of this thread is that the developers are shooting themselves in the foot by allowing previews of crappy games, however I think that they should do MORE of this because it would allow two things. 1. It keeps me from dropping $60 on a crappy game, and 2. It gives the developers a chance to get some real feedback on their product before they sink a lot of capital into production, shipping, and release.

Now that I know the name of the problem, I had a much easier time finding the link. Here it is. Whoever posted this understands it alot better than I do. The solution is still the same so there isn't a real good reason to read it unless you're curious http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=ps3&thread.id=844938

I had this same problem, but it was much worse. I hooked up my PS3 to an HDTV and I was able to see scrolling bars in the background of the screen. I hooked the PS3 up with component cables directly to the TV instead of through my system selector, and the picture got better, but I could still see the lines. I did some searching and found a thread on the PS3 website that addressed this problem. I don't have a link because it was really hard to find and I'm not about to go digging again. Bottom line you have what is called a "ground loop". It means that your PS3's power supply has two paths to the ground and it is causing interference. If you simply rip out the ground prong (the round one) and then plug in your PS3, you should be fine. I know its a drastic measure so you can try it with a regular PC power cord first and see if it helps. Or you could do what I did and just get one of those two-prong to three-prong adapters. It solved my problem instantly. Now I know what you're thinking. "How can my PS3 survive a power surge without a ground". Just for good measure, I have my PS3 plugged into a surge protector, however that is even unnecessary, because if you remember, the problem stems from the fact that you already have two paths to the ground. Long story short, go to the hardware store and buy one of those 2-3 prong adapters

I'm gonna wait. No reason spending $600 now when there isn't much to play. I will most likely wait til a price drop. If you can't wait that long, that's fine. But I would wait for te price to go down. Unless you win some cash. monopolyloser

You can't justify the $600 price because "there isn't much to play".  How many games do you intend to buy?  If you can't afford the system, how are you going to afford a high-quality, diverse library of games?  There are enough GREAT games to justify buying the system today provided you don't have time to play more than six or eight games for the next two weeks.  After that, even more great games will be released.

and anyone waiting for a price drop is going to be waiting a LONG time.

I haven't played the game on the highest difficulty yet.  However on medium difficulty I would rate the AI somewhere around 8 out of 10, but it is VERY inconsistent.

For example, the enemies know how to use cover and can time their shots really well.  They know when to move in and when to fall back.  They can catch you off guard if you leave yourself vulnerable.  They are also very aware of their surroundings.

However, it is not consistent.  There were times where I asked myself how dumb could these animals be?  Sometimes you'll see two standing next to each other off in the distance.  Usually if you shoot one of them, they will both come after you but sometimes, one of them will remain still like he hasn't seen anything.

Other times, they will be looking right at you, but won't start shooting until you cross a certain point on the ground.  For example, there was a Chimera up on a catwalk looking right down at me.  I could pick him off really easy but I didn't.  I walked between two pillars and he opened fire.  I backpedaled back between the pillars again and he stopped.

We have enough wars in the world already, why do we need so many war games to keep reminding us of the atrocities that have been going around the globe? lusitanogamer
What is that hippie crap. This is a post about the proliferation of First Person Shooters, not about your political views. Wars are what give you the right to post junk like that so be grateful.

I think that the PS3 is a better machine than the Xbox 360.  Without turning this into "which system is better"  I'll leave it at that.  It's my opinion.  It is also my firm belief that the PS3 is going to be around alot longer than the Xbox 360.  That's my opinion, and if it makes me an ass, or a fanboy posterchild, then fine.  I'm guilty.

As for the griping about the money.  I'm so sick of people complaining about the PS3's price.  It is worth $600.  Period.  The Xbox isn't all that much cheaper, especially when you add in the cost of all the periphereals and online service.  The number of Xbox exclusives is shrinking, while the number of PS3 exclusives is growing.

And it's not fanboy ranting when I say the PS3 is being positioned for the next 10 years.  Those are Sony's own words, not mine.

And if you can't afford a PS3 because you have to pay for school, gas, etc.   THE PS3 IS NOT FOR YOU.  You are not in target market.  The target market for the PS3 is guys like me.  Aged 23-35, gainfully employed, and a moderate amount of disposable income.  Sony was not thinking of broke college kids when they started selling the PS3.  Maybe if you're a good boy, Santa will bring you one for christmas.

And I will reiterate my previous comment to you and the original poster.  You KNEW that this was coming.  You KNEW it was going to cost 600 bucks a year ago.  Why are you whining NOW?  This is what next generation gaming costs and it shouldn't surprise you.  You should have thought of this a year ago when you learned that the PS3 would be so expensive.  Like I said, all you had to do was buy one less gram of weed per week and you would have a PS3 right now.

Don't blame sony because you blew your allowance on pokemon cards.

I'm not that big into FPS's.  I find that you can give me different weapons, change the setting, and the enemies, but the core gameplay is still the same.  The reason there are so many lately, I believe is that the dynamic is changing.  First Person Shooters are nothing new (how long ago did Doom come out?).  So if there are so many coming out now, that means that there must be something driving that.

Online play, cooperative multiplayer, squad-based combat, etc.  Those are the reasons that there are so many FPS out right now.  The driver is innovation.

Once again this topic surfaces.....

You knew at least a year ago that the PS3 was coming out and it was going to cost $600.  You couldn't sock away $50 a month during that time to buy it?  Only now are you realizing that this purchase is going to cut deep into your wallet?

A Price Drop?  Forget it.  At least not until x-mas 2008 I'm guessing.  And even then, maybe $100 maximum.

Sony has committed to positioning this system for the next 10 years.  That's right 10 years.  Longer than any system every.

Do you need more convincing?  Look at the PS3's cousin, the PC.  It's the only thing that can offer the same level of gaming, and play videos, pictures, and offer online play.  And what does a good gaming PC cost?  $2,500?  And how long before its obsolete and something better comes along at the same or cheaper price?  10 months?

This is what all the Xbox fanboys are chanting.  "Give me something that makes the PS3 worth $200 more than my Xbox!"  Well PS3 is a full year behind Xbox in the game library department.  We all know that.  But it's clear that the PS3 is catching up.  and FAST.

I can't wait to see what the fanboys are saying when they are waiting in line with six or seven hundred dollars to buy their Xbox 720 and its one exclusive game (probably halo 4).

Before there is anymore griping about the PS3's price, let's think about the other methods of obtaining high-quality gaming, photo viewing, video playback, web browsing, and movie playing.  The only other machine that comes to mind is the PC.  And while the PC certainly does many of those things better, a high quality machine will cost you $2,500.  On top of that, PC's become obsolete, on average, within 9-15 months.

The PS3 does all of those things, for 1/4 the price, and Sony is committed to supporting it for the next 10 years.  That means, for 1/4 of the price of a PC you are almost garaunteed to have the ability to indulge in the highest quality gaming experiences on the market for 8-10 times longer than you would with a PC.

I heard somewhere that Sony is losing 280 dollars on every PS3 they ship.  So they are not lowering the price anytime soon.  The price is the price.  The machine is worth the price right now.  When you consider how the gaming library is going to grow over the next 12 months, the value only becomes greater.

Also, you need to think about things in context.  I don't know the exact figures but money isn't worth what it used to be.  I wonder how the $200 dollars my parents paid for a SNES in 1992 would translate into today's dollars.

We all knew how much the PS3 would cost almost a year ago.  If you can't pull together $600 in that time, then there is something wrong with you.
