Til this day, the most gruesome fatalities in Mortal Kombat are found on the original Mortal Kombat. Why? Because the graphics from 1992 still hold up very well, and are most likely the most realistic character renderings and animation within the MK universe. Even by today's standards, I think the original MK is one of the best looking installments of the franchise.

@georgebill: Those days are coming to a close. I am seeing scalpers trying to unload their inventory, often only making $100 as opposed to the $500+ they were enjoying at launch and throughout the year.

From my experience in owning consoles, the launch consoles or the first version of the console is almost always the best one to own. The only exception to this was the Xbox 360 launch consoles/version 1. For Sony and Nintendo, it's almost crucial that you buy those consoles at launch as Sony and Nintendo are more likely to make adjustments for features and work arounds that are found on the original 1st versions. Think PS3 and backwards compatibility; the launch console 60gb was the only SKU that was backwards compatible with 98% of the PS2 library.

Not a single Ninja Gaiden (2004) boss. The first boss and Alma were the absolute worst during their time.
