A usual comment that I will use from the lemmings: "Waitstation 3". Of course the PS3 will have its great games, but why aren't most of them coming out now, even X360 has a continuous supply of new games so that gamers don't need to wait. gnutux

90% of GPUs are sold to gamers...Those R600 and G70 that are in the 360 and PS3 are the result of development that was fuelled by PC gaming ethusiasts and PC gamers in general...

The professional GPUs like Quadro etc are pathetic at gaming and dont push the development and progress of hardware since they are sold in bulk to corporations...

So console fanboys beware before wishing the death of PC gaming cause there wont be a R900 G100 to make Xbox3 or PS4...

Not necessarily. Although the gaming market is huge in numbers, it doesn't generate the same amount of money than professional 3D needs for architects, movie studios (especially movie studios), graphics designers and etc. Those cards are usually just as advanced, if not more advanced than a general public GPUs. It's true that gaming is the thing that pushes the GPU technology. However, even if PC gaming did die, it will dent the GPU industry, but not kill it. Development will slow down back to the days before PC gaming was around, which was when consoles meant gaming and PC meant work. gnutux

You mean back to PONG? PC gaming has been around since the second generation of video game consoles. (Atari). Dating all the way back to the Commodore and other PCs mean't soley for gaming. PC gaming dieing would have a profund impact on the future development of technologies for the masses. PC gaming is the main source of income for manufacturers of high end hardware. Every generation console hardware is largely derivative of the advances in the PC hardware market. The fewer people buying GPUs, the less money for research. The less money for research, the less advancements. The less advancements...........well you get it by now. Its like one gigantic piss covered snowball affect waitin to crush both industries.

Yes, I did say that it will slow it down. However, it will not KILL the companies as the TC suggested. Gamers have the numbers, but not the cash that corporations have when buying GPU for the professional market. gnutux

[QUOTE="FinalEvil"]If Microsoft buys ATi, don't they buy AMD along with it?Meu2k7

Not according to xbox.com with the sign up sheet showing PC under console, console is jsut a word, all gaming systems compete, thats the end of that.

Actually yes, because ATI is a wholly owned subsidary of AMD, unless AMD decides to sell ATI separately. gnutux

Starting to adjust your collars yet? Wiping the sweat off your foreheads when nobody notices?

I mean, by now, surely you can admit things arent exactly going as planned with the PS3. Have any of you excepted the reality that perhaps it's not going to take over the world this gen and possibly finish in dead last?

Food for thought.

Truth-slayer

Just a quick question.....is your 360 in the repair shop too? Thats probably why there are a surge of 360 fans here on system wars waiting out the time.

I approve this pwnage.

Mine's in my basement, I'm sitting in front of it and talking to my friend via XBL. I'm also on Gamespot ... point? Not every X360 is broken, please keep that in mind. Even if 10% of all X360 fail at least once, there's still 9 million that are still alive and kicking. gnutux

Im just curious. Lets say for instance that the 360 didnt have Halo 3 and Gears, and all it had was its mediocre titles such as Lost Planet, Dead rising, Crackdown etc. Why should someone own a 360?! Basically what im saying is.. Pretend I didnt own a 360 and I wanted someone to sell me on a 360. Im a Casual gamer and not into RPGs, so Mass Effect nor bioshock would be a selling point. I like Shooters, Racers and good action packed games.. So convince me why should I own a 360.. Again lets pretend Halo and Gears didnt even exist...

The point of this thread is Phil Harrison was right when he said a few months back. He simply said he respected the Halo franchise but he also said its dangerous to build a console on only one franchise.. And he was right. I mean lets face it, Gears and Halo are the system sellers for the 360 like it or not.. While Mass effect and bioshock might be great games, they wouldnt move consoles like Gears and halo does.

Honestly Im not trying to bash the 360 even though it might sound like it. I own a 360 and enjoy it greatly BUT I will admit that if it wasnt for Gears and Halo, I wouldnt even take a second look at the 360. Sure it might have some ok games... But not anything to warrant paying $400.00 you might say "but the PS3 is $600.00 and it has no titles either" Well yes, you are true BUT in the future it will have a lot more titles actually worth the price tag as opposed to other titles that are mediocre and are worth rentals at best.

BrutonNYC
Console exclusivity of C&C3 would still get me on the X360, same with having a better community, I think if they never existed, there wouldn't be much hype, but it doesn't mean I would've gone to the PS3 either. gnutux

Seems to me many people are very Windows oriented and supports Windows. However, aside from gaming, is there something I can't do on other OSes like Linux or Mac (which I both support and highly recommend), both are easy to use and it's pain-free. Well, less for Linux and traditional UNIX. What most people do NOT know is that Windows software is the one with the oddest compatibility and porting environment anyone can fall into. It's a lot easier if you port a Linux software to Mac and vice-versa. They're both essentially UNIX. You can argue, with the arrival of Windows XP, Windows is pretty good with uptime, however, UNIX systems generally has a higher uptime than any DOS/NT based operating to this day. Windows isn't also the best gaming environment either, running Quake 4 on Linux, I can put my settings to medium settings with barely any lag, while on Windows, if I pull it to medium settings, it's obvious that it's lagging. Windows still has issues with memory access. Windows programs running on Linux are substantially faster via WINE because Linux has a better memory access:
