I think it's because Nintendo earned its kiddy image from the GameCube era. Plus, many fanboys can't stand having Nintendo on top. I didn't really cared and got myself a Wii a few days ago. I know it's not HD, but meh, it's fun and addicting. I still find it better than blowing it on the PS3.

I think Microsoft releasing it at its time is better since we do have better and more games to play now :). Plus, the fanbase and price is the most important.

The naked eye's threshold is 21fps, after 21 fps, your eyes sees things smoothly and not in a "slideshow" mode. It sees it as a smooth video. So it doesn't really matter. For me, as long as it doesn't drop below 25 fps, I don't give a damn. It would appear slower, but not much difference.

On Linux, Need for Speed: Underground 2 on Cedega clocked a constant 20fps and I had very little problems with that.

IMHO, until there are games I find worth it on the PS3 (which to date none except 1 game, MGS4), I will never get a PS3 since it's just too damn expensive, plus I don't even back Sony's format.

I rather keep my Wii60 combo + PC

Before i say anything, this is just an opinion. If you disagree, i'm open to other interpretation. Dont post just to yell at me.

On to the actual topic....

When i first got my 360 (launch day), i was disappointed. If it weren't for Call of Duty 2 being an awesome game, i'm confident i would have sold it on ebay for the extra cash they were going for back then. Why was i disappointed? Because it wasn't wowing me. I bought Perfect Dark Zero based off my loved for the original, and i just wasn't impressed. It wasn't pulling off anything amazingly better than that xbox i'd owned for so long. Nothing which told me my money was well spent. I held on to it, though, mostly because of the wealth of stuff to do online with the videos and demos, and the funky user interface which let me play all the music and video i had on my PC.

And that brings me to the PS3. I held on to the xbox because it came out of the gate as a next-gen xbox, and that's what it was. A new, vastly improved, ready-to-evolve xbox. I was content with it until GRAW and Oblivion arrived and it really started to pick up steam.

What, then, is the Playstation 3?

Its a worthy competitor to the xbox 360. A next-gen games system. A new, ready-to-evolve, next-gen playstation. Why then am i so disappointed with it, to a far greater degree than with my Xbox?

Because of what it was SUPPOSED to be, which many PS3 fanboys around here have forgotten so quickly. This machine was supposed to make the xbox 360 look like a PS2. It was meant to run every game at 1080p, at 120 frames per second. It was a games console with power so great it was classed as a "supercomputer". It was supposed to have a controller so innovative, they were calling it a transition into "4d gaming". A console so awesome, next-gen hadn't started yet. Not until the PS3 launches.

And what was it when it finally came out? Nice graphics pretty much equal to the 360 (though Gears of War is king to this day). A controller so last-minute an entire major developer/publishing corporation outright refuses to use it. Online which though free, is nowhere near the xbox-live-killer which was supposedly in the works all this time. Games run equal to - or on many occasions worse - than their xbox 360 counterparts. No 120fps in every game. No super-computer processing. Has next-gen started? Yes. And it did so nearly two years ago with the xbox 360.

And that, in my humble opinion, is the problem with the Playstation 3. Its an amazing system. The best playstation yet. If you forget about the games and the like and just compare the hardware you get for the price, its just as good as the xbox 360. Yet can we appreciate it for that? No. Because it isn't a shadow of what was promised. It isn't what it was supposed to be; and that's why i think so few people have bought one, and why so many bash it relentlessly on these forums.

Ninja-Vox

I think TC hit every single point why a lot of people now think that Sony can't deliver its promises.

Siince we're all gamers and the PS2 was universally acknowledged as being awesome, I'm assuming that alot of people would be willing to give the PS3 a chance supposing that Sony had a good enough showing at E3. That said, what combination of announcements would cause YOU personally to reconsider the PS3? Here's my list

  • At least a 100 dollar price cut
  • Rumble controller included as standard
  • Killzone looks as good as the trailer
  • Some more sony first/second party stuff that doesn't suck
  • BIG third party announcements (new epic game, kojima game, bioware game etc)
  • Moneyhatting some DECENT exclusives (like heavy rain for example)

If Sony can pull this off it'll be the biggest turnaround since Nintendo pwned the PSP with the DS
NorthlandMan

Maybe stop lying, $200 price cut (most likely M$ will drop prices if that happens) and more shooters, and racing games. Also, add RTS like C&C3, then I will consider it.

C&C3 is one of the best RTSes ever. I have it on my X360 and it's great, but in need of a patch :p

If someone gave you 700 dollars and said the only way to use it was for a PS3 or your friend gave you a PS3 for free would you enjoy it and like it.

Also it came with a free game of your choice would you really like the PS3.

Now I did not say would you turn your back and comletely disown the other console that is your favorite I am just asking would you like it and use it and stop bashing it other than give constructive critisism or stuff that you have problems with?

Not stuff that you heard just stuff that you have experienced or your personal opinion?

So would you behave toward the PS3 differently or talk about it differently?

Dreadblades24

I'd go for one as long as it's free with no strings attached and most likely would enjoy it as long as there's a constant stream of shooters, strategy, racing and such (the genre I care about).

I'd go for a Starcraft, Gears of War, Command & Conquer and Halo movie anytime.

It's simple Sony skimped on the ram just like PS2. So now developers have to find tricks to get past it. Fact is they will not utilize the cells power with such limited ram.

makingmusic476

The 360 and the PS3 both have 512mb of RAM. :|

PS3 has a 256/256 split. While the X360 can be repartitioned to whatever the developer wants. It could be a384 main/128gfx split instead of a 256/256 which can't be changed by the developer.
