I was wondering if I could get some help/info on AMD processors.

I am looking at getting the 290GPU.. and maybe an upgrade in CPU to the Intel Core i7-4790K 4.00GHz

Then I thought, if i am making the move to AMD for the GPU, maybe I should look at the CPU range..

I have found 2 CPUs that look comparable?

AMD FX 9370 Black Edition, Vishera, 8 Core, S AM3+, Clock 4.4GHz

and

AMD FX 9590 Black Edition, Vishera, 8 Core, S AM3+, Clock 4.7GHz

They are both cheaper which is nice... but i dont know anything about them.. I read that some have a GPU on board and I would need a new motherboard to cope with the heat?

So could someone help me understand it.. maybe link to a mother board that is compatible...

Thanks

@jimmy_russell:

It was all working @120, then it stopped working. That's the issue. The cause is what I am now trying to determine.

Just wanted to see if anyone had experienced it?

Got some good ideas on how to narrow it down. Have now ordered a new cable. See if that helps.

So all in all, a really helpful thread for me.

Thanks

I dont want to hijack this thread... but (lol) if you where looking to get a new GPU this year, would you get any of the cards now (780/290)? Or are we expecting a worthy release this year?

Not sure how it works with GPUs and release cycles.. but is this a year with a full release or like a 1.5 release where it is just a few improvements and worth waiting a year for the next step?

@Grey_Eyed_Elf: @TDuiker

I only have the one GPU, one monitor and one dual-link cable :( lol

OK, so I have the pointers to try and narrow down the issue, will need to go borrow some hardware and see.

I have a ASUS 120Hz monitor, and a GTX590.

I have been using a DVI cable for the last year or so.

The other day I turn on my PC and all the fonts look crazy and blurry.

If I turn the monitor down to 60hz it all looks ok again?

How can I tell if it is the GPU or monitor with the issue?

Its still got a load of issues. I think a few are waiting for the PC update due.... well they rewarded everyone with extra XP.. but didnt provide the fix.. yet

I see a lot of servers, but a lot have 2/64, really low numbers, but active servers

What resolution are you playing at?

1080p in general and don't go lower than that, because on my 55" screen it would be a blurry mess.. When i play in stereoscopic 3D, then it's 720p - that makes it 720p for each eye, so it's technically like 2560x1440. But i use it rarely. Only for games that support it really well. Oh, and by the way, 720p in 3D with applied at least 4xAA and 16xAF is NOT blurry as some might think, it looks amazing.

On i sidenote, i decided to buy that ASUS Sabertooth 990FX mobo and go with the 660 Ti SLI setup. Will sell the 560 to my friend, who only got a terrible GTS 450... And that's it.

If you ask WHY i decided this, it's because it will save me money and the performance boost will be still great. You see, i'm from Czech Republic and non-reference ASUS GTX 780 over here costs 12500 CZK right now. While i can get new mobo (3700 CZK) + ASUS GTX 660 Ti (5500 CZK) for 9200 CZK. It's a great difference. In US dollars, to make it easier for you guys, i'd probably save about 170 bucks...

Cool, show us the before and after benchmarks :)
