Xbox came out in 2002. PlayStation came out (in the UK) in 1995. Not sure what you mean with it being "only a few years" - that's quite a long time my dude.
@oceanvagrant: The only saving grace is indie games that directly oppose all the predatory business practices of AAA companies. No microtransactions or loot boxes, BUT only available digitally...
The first game on PS3 was great, a real gem. To my shame however, I never finished it. I got stuck on a timed mission where you also had to be stealthy and avoid spotlights? Hopefully I'm not mixing that up with something else - long time since I played it.
Also, if any of this publisher's single player games have micro transactions, I won't be buying. Simple as that. Not Red Dead, not GTA. If it has micro transactions the immersion is already ruined, imo. Do what you want with the online portion, since I don't touch that as it's a shit show these days anyway, but keep that crap out of the single player.
