@goodkingmog: GIANT NAIVE POST.

there i fixed that for you.

crowdfunding is in no way in the interest of the gamer. massive up side for developers with little to no risk..... massive amount of risk with the only reward being the product they could have just bought at release for the gamer.

its a cancer, just like early access. game development is a BUSINESS. developer will make what makes them money. if you think any non-indie developers are in it for the "love" anymore.... you are WAY naive. crowdfunding and early access are just the two newest revenue streams that they have learned to tap in to.

Are people really expecting a space sim out of this game? I played and saw very little of this game, but it definitely wasn't on the complexity of the older Wing Commander games.

Opinions can vary from person to person, but I can list at least a dozen reasons why that's completely false. Wing Commander 1 through 5 were all fairly arcadey space sims. All the ships flew like airplanes and there was no realistic physics model. You couldn't kill your engines and just coast or fly with an "unassisted" mode. The only Origin space combat sim that had that was a game called Space Rogue and it predated the WC series. The WC games never similated g-force blackouts/redouts like a proper flight sim, so they also never gave you the option of turning off inertial safeties to allow for higher speed maneuvers at the increased risk of lose conciousness during combat.

Star Citizen has fully customizable ships even in the current version. You can change out countermeasures, weapons, ammo, etc. Different types of missles use different tracking systems so you can/must load multiple types of countermeasures to beat them. The ships have customizable weapon groups that can be programmed (up to five, I think). You can change power distribution on the fly. The ship's systems use intelligent predictive control when using joysticks in dogfighting to prevent overcorrection, which is a feature you can turn off. The game supports VR and headtracking units as well as complex HOTAS setups. You can actually land your ships manually even in the current version.

The list goes on, but it's not expected that you would know all of this if you haven't put any real time into the game.

Again, I played very little, but it seemed much easier to understand then Wing Commander. Star Citizen gives you a lot more visual feedback and control information at the start. Wing Commander games can take someone a couple hours to get a grasp on what's actually going on and how to operate the controls.. I managed to figure out the basics of Star Citizen within the first 5 mins of flying around.

No offense, but common sense would dictate that if you haven't really played it then you aren't really qualified to express an opinion on how it plays. Besides, what you are describing doesn't mean the game is "less complex", it means it has a better UI. Game design has come a long way since the Wing Commander series.

Also, I played through every game in the Wing Commander series. What about them took hours to grasp?

lol.... im so glad so many people bought in to this scam.

the place is going to get burned down when they dont deliver and im going to laugh the entire time. hopefully it will put the final nail in early access/kickstarter/buying games before they are done.

There is no reason why anyone should wish this game to fail. They are trying something extremely ambitious, and whether or not they succeed we as gamers should -want- game companies to take risks and try to push the envelope. If we don't, then we have no reason to complain about every game being the same crap or whining about how Call of Duty Modern Warefare XIII costs $100 ten years from now.

-Byshop

nope, sorry. disagree.

they arent trying something ambitious.... they are having an exercise in greed. 2K dollars for a virtual space ship? buying games before anything at all is known about them, just based on someone's past success? investing in a game, just to receive the end product and taking all the risk with the only reward being early access to the game and maybe a few virtual items that cost nothing?

there is no upside to crowdfunding and early access for gamers. all of the upside is for developers. there is a reason investors require gains..... they are taking the risk with their money, they should get something back. you arent getting any gains from crowdfunding or early access, but you are taking all the risk. developers want you to think that the gain is "well this game would never get made without crowdfunding"...but that just isnt true. sure you may want that game.... but you can just buy it when it is released with no risk. crowd funding is not required to make games that suposedly appeal to small audiences. indie studios make niche games all the time without crowd funding. so please... dont try to use the excuse that the game wouldnt exist without crowd funding. there are other ways.... developers have just zeroed in on the fact that people are idiots and easily parted with their money based on nothing but promises and dreams.

crowdfunding needs to go. early access needs to go. anyone that supports these things is the problem, and not the solution. you are literally the reason why developers think that they can get away with paid mods on steam ala skyrim, insane amounts of DLC that are obviously content that was held back ala Evolve..... its easy money and they know it. you encourage developers to seek other ways to monetize the process outside of the traditional "sell a game when it is complete" model. if people would stop giving developers money for anything other than a complete game in their hand at the time of purchase.... none of this bullshit would exist.

Seriously? So, you don't want developers to try new things? You don't want diversity in games? Crowd funding is a great thing. Many of the games would not be greenlit by publishers. I am sick of the same garbage games and sequels coming out all the time. You should embrace crowdfunding as it is good for gamers.

no, no it isnt. the only up side in crowd funding is for developers. all gamers get is locked in to a game they know little to nothing about, and the possibility of getting scammed out of their money.

crowd funding for games needs to go.

Mate, i have Asperger's and OCD. You have no idea of the damage you've just caused me by saying that...

jesus dude... you need to get back on your meds then.

im being serious. seek treatment, or get back on your meds. if you are on meds, and you still feel that kind of anxiety, then you arent on the right ones and need to speak with your psychiatrist.

someone hacked my xbox 360 account couple years back. No idea how because my password was sorta hard, an uncommon word and two numbers. But after that i made my password 100x harder, its random characters and symbols, it wouldnt be possible to guess it even if you had a million years to do so, it would require pure brute force to do it.

The loser that broke into my account bought fifa digital items and stole my money that way. Another reason to hate EA for having a p2w crap in their game so people were able to steal funds and transfer digital items. I've never even played this crappy Fifa game.

I got my money refunded after a month but lost all trust in security and have bought very little on my xbox or playstation since.

What bugs me is they don't let you use long enough passwords so you have to resort to odd characters, i rather have a super long password that i can remember but would not be possible to guess. My truecrypt password is over 45 characters long, its easy to remember because its a weird phrase i memorized but added numbers to the end of it to complicate it further. One of my online banking passwords are super weak, they only let you use around 14 characters, so i randomized it best i could with words and numbers with no logic.

Another thing i'll add, i don't type in my passwords from beginning to end, i cut a portion from a text file and fill in the blanks from memory making it near impossible to guess even if i had a keylogger on my pc.

password length is more important than complexity.... FYI. an 8 character password with random numbers and letters is actually EASY to brute force. let this comic explain:

neither... FF14.

best MMO on the market right now. there is literally enough content right now that if you started from level 1, you could do something new every day for the next 5 months and still probably not finish the story. i came back 3 months ago after completing the 2.0 story around the relaunch, and it took me the 3 months of playing about 4-5 days a week to finish all the post game stories, dungeons, and raids. the game has a -lot- of content.

it is as easy as how complicated your password is.

complicated password? potentially impossible to hack your account

your password is password123? would take about 2 minutes to hack.
