@Isamu_36: I find Kojima's way of thinking, creating and directing a breath of fresh air. he brings his Asian mindset and also brings in western influences. His games appeal more to the intelligent people because the games are usually complex deep and ambiguous in nature. The fact that the games aren't released in subsequent parts doesn't help either.

Therefor Kojima is the best developer out there for me. He goes beyond the cliches, thinks outside of the limited western box and is an innovator. Besides that the metaphors and symbolisms he uses are often refer to philosophy and culture. He is lightyears ahead and deserves his praise.

It was either going to be Witcher 3 or Metal Gear Solid V. They won 3 and 2 awards respectively. I'm content with this.

@ninboxstation: "F4's battle/action situations, shoot outs, slow motion (kills), etc. etc. on survival mode make it the best "action" game of besides Halo 5"

Comparing Fallout 4's combat (that is a competent shooter at best) with one of the better shooters of this year makes you look stupid, especially when you compare it with Bloodborne which arguably has the best melee combat of this year. The outdated VATS system puts it's emphasis on FPS in Fallout 4 but now the game has a identitycrisis, making it less of a RPG - which was it's strong point.

What does fallout 4 do better than other games exactly? The GOTY candidate is just a token because of it's immense popularity. Already stated that Fallout 4 would fall short months ago because of the lack of innovation. The other games have stepped up their game and Fallout 4 is in fact Fallout 3.5.

Bethesda played it safe by giving more of the same and not risking anything. They rely on the mods to cloak their ugly and broken game and expect to spoonfeed a buggy game and expect the fans to swallow it.

Clearly Fallout 4 doesn't belong in the same tier as a MGSV, Witcher 3 and maybe Bloodborne. I don't expect it to win any of the awards. Mostly Witcher 3 and MGSV.

@bacontophat45: I share Blackwingzero's thoughts on this. I know the lore and all what happened and I couldn't help but gasp sometimes when the story on the tapes unraveld itself. Everything made sense and is explained far better than the usual MGS 'it's nanomachines son' way. You also do not understand that Big Boss is not a villain and that Operation Intrude N313 happens 10 years later, there where the phantom died. Ironically he was the catalyst of Psycho mantis projection as a hub. The story was not as elaborate as in previous MGS games but certainly it was satisfying.

@uxtull: That's a very narrow vision you place on a game. If anything MGSV is a combination of red dead redemption, Peace Walker and FarCry. It's innovation (rare these days) made it possible to have an exciting STEALTH game (not a shooter) within a SANDBOX (not open world) environment to tackle missions how you see fit. The AI wasn't the best, but they ar emore than fair, especially when you compare it with other games. Also the Companion AI has been one of the best I've seen. Fallout 4 can learn something here. Every game has repetitive elements in it. At least in MGSV you gather new tools and methods to do missions using your own creativity. For a non RPG the overall value, game production is very high. Combined with the best gameplay of this year it validates as being a game of the year.

@the-games-masta: It's a joke that you even mention Fallout 4. That game is a tier below TW3 and MGSV for all the right reasons.

@bigruss730: Most polished is easily MGSV. Great graphics, smooth gameplay and steady 60fps with very few issues.

Best tier of games: MGSV & Witcher 3. then comes Bloodborne and maybe Fallout 4 (being generous)
