@Monsterkillah I wish I hadn't bought Evil Within. It's not scary, it's just a contrite mishmash of other gameplay elements into one boring sandwich.
BTW, Dead Space is 6 years old. It's a dead franchise. Amnesia MFP is old, TDD is old, and neither of them was even that scary. Fatal Frame is also a dead franchise that has existed only on Nintendo and almost only in Japan for years.
As far as Outlast, not scary, and Silent Hill is also dead - the new one won't be that good, just wait.
@Kryptonbornson Except that she hasn't because Degeneration took place in 2008. Claire was a member of an NPO lobbyist organization that protests and works peacefully against viral research. Between Code Veronica (late 98) and Degeneration (Fallish 2008) she was not running around killing zombies. She was a student and a civillian. Since 2008, the last time she killed zombies for less than one entire night, she hasn't been killing zombies.
She's also like mid 30s if not 40s now and maybe not necessarily running around and being so spry.
Evil Within fails utterly to scare me so far. I shouted obscenities, out of surprise, but not because I was scared. Because I knew I would die or thought I would die. Considering the game autosaves frequently, it doesn't even matter if I die other than wounding my pride.
Alone or not.
But to analyze your comment, it's inaccurate. You're expecting logic. The protagonists are not experienced BOW killers. They are SUPPOSED to be, but Capcom fails to understand the concepts of story or persistent characters. In every single game and movie, Leon tells the zombies to stop. Begs them to stop. Doesn't understand what they are until he has to shoot them in the head. The same happens with every other character.
Claire especially is not an experienced BOW killer, at all. She was in 2 games and 1 movie where she had to kill anything. All she did in Degen was kill zombies and then you can add zombies, 2 tyrants, and some lickers and bandersnatches in there. Not to mention that without more information, this story doesn't fit at all because Claire shouldn't be in any outbreak situation - that's lore established in Degen.
As for RE6, I didn't really think about this until recently. Sherry and Jake. Both of them are children, though jake is complete bs retcon, of the masterminds behind Umbrella. Both of them have virus bonded with their DNA - Sherry the G virus, Jake the T virus. Even if they were inexperienced, they still have essentially superhuman mutations that aid them in combat and everything else. Plus, Sherry was an agent who deals with BOWs, she definitely has experience with them.
