I hate to break it to you, but if you're playing PS3 for 10 years. EVERYTHING IS GOING TO LOOK GOOD in your next purchase. The 360 may at this moment look a little better than CURRENT gen, but you have to know, that Xbox is allready twice as powerfull as the PS2, so the 360 is going to impress less... However, if COWS are expecting a CGI-type of level ala Killzone, they WILL BE DISAPONTED For the cost of a graphics card of $400-500, which you HAVE to upgrade allmost every 1-2 years, if you want to keep up. You can just spend $400-$500 on a console, with the same or better graphics. Recycle. Just spend less.three60mafia

You do realize that the 10-year life span Sony referred to was the same 10-year life span they talked about with both the PlayStation and PlayStation 2, right?  Does that mean that there were 10 years between the release of one console and the next?  No.  It means that even after the new console is made, they will continue to sell the old one, and even release a few games for it.  That way, you actually get your money's worth.

If I have to pay another $400 in 3-4 years for another Xbox, I'm done with Microsoft.  I have both or their systems and I love them, but enough is enough.  I will not pay $400 or more (plus extra for games and controllers) for just slightly better graphics in 3-4 years.

sony doesnt make the blue ray drive in the PS3, or the cell processor or the radio board or the casing. It only costs 5 cents to make a can of coke, but it sells for around a dollar, this is the same, sony has to buy the parts for the PS3, they arent hommade, it isnt free.

I am being realistic not fantastic and not fanboy dreams. This is it, more parts+more technology+more power = more money. Sony just cant make everything cheap. PS2 was $300 at launch, Xbox 360 was $400 at launch, and a more powerful system that costs more to manufacture WILL NOT sell for less. Rule of economics: If you sell less then you charge then you are loosing money. Goal = gain money. If Sony isnt making the parts, then they are buying them, and if they are buying prototype superprocessors with 5GHZ of processing power, (4GHZ sells for around 1,000 for a pentium D) then it will be over 500 bucks. I am buying one, im just telling you that if you go the the store with 400 bucks, you are walking away empty handed

You do realize that all consoles (besides those made by Nintendo, usually) sell for a loss during their first couple of years (at least), right?  They do this to sell more consoles.  Why?  Because the money is in the software.  Each piece of software made by a third party developer requires that developer to pay a fee to the console manufacturer, and all first party software sends the total profits right into the pockets of the console manufacturer.

With the Blu-ray drive in PlayStation 3, Sony can seemingly afford to take an even bigger hit when it comes to the price of the console.  Since each and every piece of Blu-ray technology requires royalties to be paid to Sony, they make money from not only games, but each and every Blu-ray movie sold. 

Knowing that they can make some massive profits on the software side, I'm willing to bet Sony will deliver the PlayStation 3 for far less than most people seem to think.  They need to sell it at a massive loss to get the machine into people's homes -- because they know that people will want to buy both games and movies to show off their new Blu-ray player.

There was no price tag on the PlayStation 3 prototype; it's not like you could buy one on the E3 floor.
