the circumstances aren't different. The 360 is the second console from Microsoft, the PS2 was the second console from Sony. The 360 had a full year head start, the PS2 is regarded as having a year long head start but in fact was dealing with the dreamcast right out the gate. The only real difference is the PS1 was well received and the Xbox wasn't.
It sold 4.4 million units last holiday. With halo around we can easily assume MS will sale 6 million. It's not over yet. GTA 4 will come march next year. I think this GTA delay has proven to be a bless for them. They will obviously sell another 2-1.5 millioninat GTA launch. So total 8 million in 6 months. ps3 may get 4-5 mil and wii also 4-5 mil. So who's the winner in the end? 360.

Yeah I went a little too far with it too. I just get so fed up of people always using Sony and Beta as symbols of failure when it's just so wrong. Much of Sony's wealth is attributed to Beta. pimperjones
You are right about beta and how its still making sony money but I think its time to just let this one go. You know what really happened and so do I, but they just aren't going to get it. If you guys wanted to make a point, minidisc or laser disc would have been far better examples as they just died horrible, horrible deaths.
I wish they could have pushed some of these fall titles out sooner but other than that I think its doing great. The PS2 took the whole first year to get anything worth playing and I've already bought several for the PS3. Everyone says sony has lost its focus on games but it seems to me they are coming with games more aggressively than before. I got my PS2 shortly after launch and I only had 2 games (GT aspec and Z.O.E.) until devil may cry, MGS2, and FFX came out. This gen its been pretty good so far with resistance, armored core 4, NGS, warhawk, motostorm, R6V, GRAW 2, and very shortly heavenly sword and haze.
its not always tracking stats even if your on a rank server (I've lost about 2 dozen ribbions and 8-9 badges so far). They said the problem is due to bringing the US and Europe online is causing some glitches but it should be fixed pretty soon.
