if the warranty is still good call for the box, just remember to backup anything you can(at least saves)and remember your psn account info(just log back in and grab your games and stuff if they wipe it)
does it take an extrra long time to load the disc(ie. wating for the bubble in the corner to disappear and the video play)?the laser fails by losing its ability to focus correctly,so the part of the disc it can 'see' changes as it deteriorates. It can probably still see the first part of the disc mainly because theres different amounts of data at the center and outer edge of the disc so more or less may be readable over a given area.(also its tempermental haha no joke just stubborn!)
yeah a lot of earlier/launch ps3s got the first or so batch of blu-ray laser diodes, and there were(still are but at least thyre aware of them)issues with a good percentage of them.Youll see it all the time on these and other ps3 forums(but theres always fifty others with no problems saying the posters' smokin lol.Hopefully they can improve the lasers' quality in the future.I fixed mine, but i may have to do it again down the line(hope not crosses fingers)
laser needs replacing, and your friend hosed you haha!...not funny tho so...but you can fix it your self if you are careful, just need a new laser assembly(kes-400a on ebay or google)
laser is going to hell for eetz sinz lol,Most likely the laser is failing, its ridiculous how many times i see it and then everyone is all 'dude yur a nut sonee is teh god create master n it aint broke geek!yur stopid quit breathing' lol
well the model no. kem-400aaa is the one with the motor and the metal that holds it and has the rails for the kes-400a laser assembly.the kes-400a includes the rest obviously, and it is the only part You need to repair the drive(just swap out the old laser assembly and leave the old deck)in my case i did both,as i bought the kem-400aaa first thinking my motor was busted, then the laser on that one failed so i got the kes-400a and its working fine since.
i was sure the model didnt matter but i put it up anyway, ok the original blu-ray drive is a model KEM-400AAA. the one i bought to replace is was a KES-400AAA. not to sure what the difference between the two but eh. also when you by one make sure you by one that is a complete deck or that says w/deck. otherwise you will only get just the just the motor. and again if you know someone who is really good with computers they can install it for you. but remember once you take the factory sticker off the bottom its hard to get sony to fix it, if you send to them for any problems. if you need to know how to take it apart check out youtube, theres lots of videos out the showing you how to take it apart and such. or you can send it to me and ill fix it for you but you got to buy the drive , not me lolKogoshuko
actually the kem-400aaa one is the complete deck(kes-400a is the laser assembly alone so kem includes the deck/motor),and You cant really get just the motor by itself.(i bough the kem one first but the laser in it was bad so then i just replaced the laser assembly(kes)and its working fine now
