The more intense the cardio the more muscle you will be using as energy, if you are out of glycogen.

Eat high amount of carbs in morning, eat protein/fat meals at night. pump iron.

if someone has an underactive thyroid... keeping the weight off is almost impossible

i know they affect your thyroid, which controls metabolism btw, so in effect you will have a more efficient metabolism while you take them. I would try and stay away from caffeine as your tolerance builds up after regular use, and you gradually shift from feeling energized when you take it to feeling weak and tired all day when you do not take it. Try getting plenty of sleep and eat foods that do not spike your blood sugar ex.. fruits vegetables whole grains etc..

also make sure you eat a lot... its very difficult to build muscle your body needs the energy
