hmm, they should have done a different test: bring in subjects with years of violent video game exposure, have them play for a little bit, then have a (faked) real life murder scene where a guy breaks into the office and starts shooting the instructors with blanks and fake blood spurts.

Record the subject’s reactions. I’d be shocked if they are all not panicking and ducking for cover. It’s a lot easier to be desensitized to violence in games and movies because deep down we know it’s not real and we are not in any danger. But when put into a real world situation, the danger is real, the fear of personnel safety is real.

@Sheik2 (my original post was too long) continued:

this type of multitasking and remembering/awareness of different information is transferable into the real world or workplace when alot of info could be thrown at you very quickly and the type of example i mentioned above is mental training of sorts that helps you retain this info long enough to complete your tasks.

I wasnt referencing cod specifically, which imo is the on the shallow end of the FPS genre. And yes you can play FPS in a lazy fashion without much thought, but those players are very bad. Good players play smart. In BF3 for example, a single engagement can have alot of things you are keeping track of:

the locations of my enemy(s), what available nearby cover i have, my customized equipment im carrying and if they will be helpful in this situation, am i going to live or die and if im gonna die how to inflict the most casualties, my weapons available and the fire mode im using. limiting my exposure to engage multiple enemies one at a time, keeping track of my ammo count in my mag, glancing at the mini map to see where my local allies or enemies might be, and my current obj: the flag.

makes sense to me. In games, even in FPS' you are multitasking and remembering objectives alot; doing that on a consistent basis "keeps your brain in shape" just like any muscle.

So far i like the show, the only flaw is the production value on cgi isnt that great, the fast paced battles and fast camera work made it kinda blurry or hard to see alot of clear detail. but this quality of production value is to be expected on their budget and is still quite good compared to its peers. I already like the main characters, many of which are familar from previous scifi shows (im not calling it syfy).
