If NSMB DS is any indication, we can expect New Super Mario Bros Wii to dominate the sales charts for the next couple years, let alone the preorder chart.

DS_Lightning21

If not dominate the sales charts, but have the "legs" to stay in them for months or even years (mostly due to word-of-mouth). This is something that so-called "mature" or "hardcore" games do not have, as they are often "front-ended" with high sales in their early weeks, then fall off the charts never to return.

Isn't Edge part of or owned by Spike TV?Bigboi500

No. EDGE is owned by U.K. publisher Future Publishing, whose American subsidary is Future US which publishes Nintendo Power.

4) Inazuma Eleven 2: Kyoui no Shinryokusha - Blizzard / Level 5 / DS / 60,580 - blizzard?

Espada12

"Blizzard" is one of the two versions of Inazuma Eleven 2. It is like Pokemon Heart Gold/Soul Silver.

This is what I think the EDGE rating scale converted to the scale often used by American publications:

EDGE = American scale

1 = 5.0-5.4

2 = 5.5-5.9

3 = 6.0-6.4

4 = 6.5-6.9

5 = 7.0-7.4

6 = 7.5-7.9

7 = 8.0-8.4

8 = 8.5-8.9

9 = 9.0-9.4

10 = 9.5-10.0

Wow they were extremely harsh...

Borderlands at 6?

Rachet at 7?

New Super Mario Bros at 7?

I'll bet all 3 of those games will be AA+ on GS. Borderlands already is.

bobcheeseball

Does EDGE uses the full scale unlike most American publications? If that is so, then it is good that none of these games score a 5/10, which means "average."

I wonder if Gamerankings.com will take the numbers as they are while not understanding that EDGE uses a different rating scale.

One thing about Nintendo's partnership with NVidia, it is just unconfirmed by both parties. We will know more if it is true when they confirm it, or around 2010 or 2011 when the DSi's successor would be revealed.

As for the Tengra chip used for the successor handheld, it may be one that has yet to exist or an upgraded version of an existing model. Chip technology is always progressing and we may see an advanced Tengra chip.

This rumored partnership is probably due to Nintendo's commerical success with the DS which allows it to invest in better technology in its future products.

It was received fairly well in Japan (32/40 in Famitsu), and it is said to be significantly more difficult than your typical turn-based JRPG. And even though it is a turn-based game, it apparently has fast-paced battles. funsohng

Even though it was received well by Famitsu (32/40 is considered a "good" score, as that is 8.0 out of 10 in the 1-10 scale), I recalled that it sold less than 50,000 copies overall in Japan. However, in its first week, it sould about 26,000 copies. As an unproven, but new IP, this is understandable, as most games do not sell over 100K in Japan.

Are we forgetting The Conduit? It was hyped as Jesus's second coming. The game had abysmal sales too. When a game hyped to the extent in which the Conduit was does so badly in the sales department, we know there's something wrong with the Wii market.

OreoMilkshake

Why would Sega say they were happy if the sales were so abysmal?

It is not the gaming media or fanboys that decide whether sales of a game is abysmal or not, but its publisher. Also, the belief that a game has to sell at least one million copies to be successful is wrong as it fails to consider development costs or demographics. A game can sell 50,000 copies and still be within publisher expectations or be profitable.

They can test the market all the hell they want. While they twiddle their feet, I'm buying Arc Rise Fantasia, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, and Monster Hunter Tri. When they start releasing kill apps with the budgets to match, then we can talk about it.

umcommon

Monster Hunter 3 is one of my most anticipated games, I hope it sells very well outside of Japan.

Let us pray that Monster Hunter 3 be the breakout game for the franchise in the West and become a commerical and critical success here, just like Final Fantasy VII did to Final Fantasy.

Wow Uncharted 2 is selling better than i thought it would. :o

EmperorSupreme

It really deserves to be #1, I actually didn't know it was released in Japan already so I didn't have any expectations for it.

Like most Western games that are released in Japan expect Uncharted 2 to drop out of the Top 10 list next week. It sold more copies than the total numbers of the first game.
