ironically, the screen resolutions for hdtv's have existed for 30 years, as did lcd's and hdtv's have been on the market since 1997. hdtv's and their resolutions were invented long before any technology was created to take advantage of them.
Correct. Before the existence of NTSC and PAL, there were experiments on higher television resolutions during the waning days of World War II. However, due to technical limitations, these resolutions were not practical until the last few decades.
One have to remember: something may be advanced and impractical today, but it may be practical in the future. I predict in the next ten to twenty years that there will be a handheld system with 720p or HD-quality screens that will be affordable.
