@Darnasian i agree and disagree with your statement. you are probably right most commenters here would do the same thing. but i do things that are bad for "profits" all the time, i spend hours painting art that i give away using paint and canvas i buy out of pocket, ive never sold a piece and never will. the joy i can give someone with a piece of art is far more enjoyable. i create music for free and share it with people, also do a lot of free IT and service work for those in need, just because id like to help. not everything in life is about profits sometimes you should just do it because you love it. In my opinion art like ip should be shared . a society will only go further with selfless acts of culture and learning. might be idealistic but thats my viewpoint. lastly i feel like most of these devs and publishers have become jaded with aspiring profits. you cant keep earning higher profits every fiscal year that trend will always come to an end. sometimes you make less than the year prior.

@dogman7 Also dude not trying to get into an argument i respect you opinion and will even defend it, but think about it like this. to blame issues on others is a cop out excuse and to say that call of duty is at fault for "really screwing things up" is just like saying im not allowed to paint an art piece because another guy has already painted a great art piece prior. say two guys are painting canvas at either end of the block. and say people really like one guys painting over another. do you really think that the other painter who is not being enamored should copy the other guy just because people like it. he would look like a hack, worse than just sticking to his original painting. if no one likes your work it should be for your personal ideas not for rehashing of someone else work. at least you can still have pride you created something no one else has. yeah it might have failed but at least you tried.

@dogman7 Im not saying they should somehow magically get the money. they need to earn it. this is a problem from two different perspectives. one from the devs which do want to try new things and are being hindered by the publishers, who, two want to make money and dont want to stray from a beaten path. Realize that someone before them had beaten that path. call of duty isnt some innate thing that has always been, it was molded by the community and multiple dev teams into what people wanted. that is the key. activision was apart of atari who at the time was not allowing devs to try new things because they didnt want to fund the cost of innovation but guess what the dev team did? they broke off from atari and created activision. they went onto create numerous hits all of which had original ip in the beginning. valve and steam are another great example of trying new things and making them successful. dont you think people were weary of a download only purchasing service when it first hit the market. but look its awesome it worked out great. Gabe Newell funded that out of pocket. no publishers. when people do amazing things they are rewarded, then people try to copy those things and we end up with more of the same stuff, no innovation. IE the early 80s when video games almost died, due to guess what, no original ip and over saturation. dont defend laziness because there isnt money to be made. sometimes you have to struggle to get reward. not everything in life is a cakewalk.

Nothing is gained without risk. Damn wed still be playing pong if no one thought outside the box and did things that hadnt been established prior. being a human means trying things and failing, learning from your mistakes and trying again. F*ck these lazy devs. this is such a cop out excuse. and you know what excuses are like @ssholes everyone has one. no wonder no one has funded your game, with this attitude. take tim schaffer at double fine for example, he is part of a dying breed of adventure games devs, publishers dont want to produce a point and click adventure, they dont sell well, but there are still a tone of hardcore fans. so what did tim do, he went to the people asked them if they like to donate and help create a game they would want to play. If you want it dont you will make it happen. do what you love with all your heart and people notice and reciprocate.

@chiefvsgordon Thank you, you speak the truth. id own all if i could, but its too expensive so i go pc ps3, covers a good amount of exclusive titles. its sucks though i miss out on some sweet ip from microsoft and nintendo. i wish that i could buy one console or pc and play all games. my issue is personally with the privatized IP.

When are these devs going to learn the customer is always right, or at least to keep their mouthes shut. if we want used games we will have them, if we want pudding slathered all over the inside of the games cases, with a big enough out cry we would get pudding slathered all over the inside of our game cases. point and example is what took place in the case of the n control and their avenger product. ocean marketing in one swift move almost lost all of their customers due to poor PR. Nintendo without the help of 75 000 petitioners almost lost significant sales of one of its most sought after rpgs. some times companies realize this like valve, and do everything in their power to offer product to every customer evenly. some times they have their heads so far up their behind like ea and crytek that they dont even realize customers exist. oh maybe thats why crysis 2 was one of the most illegally downloaded games. treat us with respect and trust we as the community will reciprocate. But know this. We the consumer are the ones with the power not the dev team. without us there is no industry, no one to sell to. without industry we would just go back to making our own games and shareware.
