Far from it. There are still challenges that have yet to be fully addressed. HuusAsking

Yes it is, you are using inane arguments that are little to no bearing on this issue what soever.

So it's guaranteed that a game developed five years from now will be perfectly playable on a PC of today?HuusAsking

Any game that is ported from a console to a PC, yea, it will be playable on the PC. PC exclusives are a different story, I'll admit that there will probally be a few games ala Crysis which will just be to much of a mission for that rig.

Yeah, but can you surf the web, do word processing (and by that, I mean in text smaller than 8pt at page width view), or see the tiny status displays of those PC games that were meant for people viewing from two rather then eight feet away?HuusAsking

You sure can buddy, just turn down the resolution, and if you've got a HDTV, then it's not even an issue.

Way to alienate the bulk of the gaming audience. Doesn't PC game devs want more gamers so there'll be a bigger pie to share among them?HuusAsking

That's not what were talking about here, sure you can go out and buy an expensive gaming pc, but the fact is, if you want to play the games that are only availabe on PC, you can do so for a similar price to a console.

Most PC gamers also use their PC for other stuff, but hey, if your not computer literate enough, either buy a stock pc or get a console.

(1) "You'll have to upgrade again in 18 months"

No. If I wanted to max every game coming out from there on then maybe, but to 'PLAY' new games coming out, no I wont. Like I said in a previous post, my 5 year old PC maxes HL2 at a decent resolution, although without antialiasing! This PC will still be able to 'play' new games 5 maybe 6 years from now if previous game progression is anything to go by.

HuusAsking

Counter-counterargument accroding to some fans, "if you're not playing it maxed out, you're not playing it".

(2) "You need to add a monitor and speakers to the price"

No I dont. A PC can be plugged into anything a console can. When you buy a GPU, you get a set of cables that come with it and one of them allows for you to plug into a SDTV. You can also plug into most HDTVs using VGA, component or even buy a DVI to HDMI cable!DAZZER7

Counter-counterargument accroding to some fans, "But is it usable on that TV?"

(3) "But who is going to shop around for these parts?"

It was something along those lines anyway. Well, if you select the components online, lots of retailers, such as the one I linked to will GLADLY put it all together for you at no extra cost as they are gettin g the sale of the components out of the deal. Some may charge, but its not going to add a great deal to the cost. The added benefit of doing it yourself is that you learn a lot more and if you need to upgrade again or repair/replace anything, you can do it yourself.

The only valid point I have found is actually from a fellow hermit. Someone mentioned the PSU not being top of the line! Well that is entirely correct. It would run the system but it wouldn't allow you to overclock and could cause system instability. So on that point I hold my hand up. The good news is, I have found a decent coolermaster that I could put in for little extra cost :P I will post a link shortly.DAZZER7

Counter-counterargument accroding to some fans, "Who's got time to shop around? Just point me to a prebuilt, on-the-shelf PC that can play all my games maxed out with pop-in-and-play simplicity."

This post is Fail.

1>Um yea, even if it's not at it's highest settings, it's till going to look better than consoles

2> Of course it's usuable on ANY TV, I have my rig hooked up to my SDTV to run media portal, it looks great.

3> If your to lazy or stupid to build a PC, get a console, that's what they were designed for. People that can't build a PC.

Omg Halo 1 Remake with Cry Engine 2....8)

That would be my dream....

Halo 1 is hardly a vintage game

I still buy vintage games all the time. Just last week I brought Power Blade for the NES and Holy Magic Centruy (Quest 64).

If this ever gets anywere near complete Nintendo will most likely issue them a cease and desist letter.Marka1700

Na I doubt it, they are using Nintys IP so they cannot profit from it, but I'm sure they are perfectly within their legal rights to release a mod online containing the characters, provided they credit Ninty with the creation of the IP.

[QUOTE="householdman"]Because you are in no position to judge stealth games until you play them. Forza_2
So, an old game like Thief is gonna have even better AI than any recent game ?

I didn't say that. However, it is unfair to judge a genre when you haven't played the best that it has to offer :)

[QUOTE="Dante2710"]this is one of the reasons i love pc`s.....i wish i could make my own mods and stuff....but i need to buy a new pc since mine is like 6 years old...i wonder how hard it is to make a mod >_> at least im knowledgeable in photoshop....maybe that might helpDante2710

Most end-user modding tools (That is not full dev tool suites) require at the very least the ablility to pick up a proprietry scripting language, usually somthing similar to C (Procedural). Modding is VERY different from texture packs/maps/new character models etc. While it does encompass those things, it is also so much more.

C++ doesnt really look hard but i dont wanna waste my time learning a pc language and it will just end up being a hobby....im happy enough i know some java lol

Meh, C++ is easy if you already know your opp principals from Java. However, Java is slow as molacice sliding downhill. In my experience, it is sometimes used for non-reasource consuming tasks in game design, but very rarelly for the important stuff.

Cry Engine 2 does not require you to know C++ or any programming language. The Editor comes with a built in programming machine called flowgraphs. It's very easy to use and learn. I didn't know any programming prior to making maps in Cryengine 2 and I made this map, my 2nd map ever in any editor: http://www.crymod.com/thread.php?threadid=17177

Thats a map. To make any real changes to the engine functions, you will most likley need to know the scripting language.

Also, I said nothig about C++. I said procedural.

Why do I need to play Thief ?

Because you are in no position to judge stealth games until you play them.

[QUOTE="householdman"]Theif 1/2 > youPlaneforger

Well...yeah, obviously, but the TC was asking about multiplayer stealth games.

Which reminds me - if the Thievery mod for UT is even remotely like the Thief series, then it should be totally awesome.

He said, Single Player stealth games are boring. I would say Theif is anything but boring.
