[QUOTE="iArab"]I am a muslim. I have read most of the Quran and I understand what it means so there are no faulty translations. What I have read makes perfect sense and seems to explain a lot about the earth and the universe which is something I can't say for any other religion. The fact that there are so many people I know that convert to Islam when they actually take the time to seriously study our religion just makes it easier to believe.RationalAtheist

Oh yes there are. There are plenty of interpretations of the kuran. For starters, it needs to be translated. Secondly and sadly, it suffers the same degree of interpretation as the bible.

Did you read the part of the kuran that states you should not argue your beliefs with infidels, but with your imam?

The kuran has much greek thinking in it, which is where much of the logic and science comes in. Its still based on the Old testaments though.

Why do some islamic students go to madrases and chant verses from the kuran endlessly? Do you not accept there is a link between excessive chanting and mind-control?

Do you not think that there are many interpretations of the kuran, seeing as muslims clearly disagree over what jihad is and whether martyrdom is acceptable in a progressive democracy?

Yes, many people misunderstood the meaning of the Quran. Those students chanting verses over and over are wasting their time. These misunderstandings can really alter the meaning of the Quran. Islamic extremists misunderstood what Jihad meant, they did not get the deep meaning of the Prophet Muhammad's jihad. Most students in the Middle East are learning from wahabi's and mullahs that don't understand what they're preaching. My grandfather has dedicated his life to studying the Quran and he has read it all and everyday he digs deeper into the true meanings that are hidden inside. He holds meetings when he is in town and many people come to hear him talk, it is amazing. He is able to translate what he knows in a way that even the most daft people can understand. I am young and have much to learn about Islam, he is the one you need to talk to, he knows much more than I do.

If you are interested in reading some transcripts of his meetings then please pm me as I am not comfortable posting the link here.

There is plenty of information from many varieties of islam on the internet. What interests me is the incredibly diverse views from within the one religion. Islamic treatment of women, sharia law and the rejection of democracy, and intolerence for other faiths or beliefs are good enough reasons to discount islam.

Your uncle (is he an imam?) must be powerful, if people come to him for his translations of the kuran. It does suggest that your original statement is not true though, as if the kuran has "no faulty translations", your uncle would be out of a job!

First, he's my grandfather not uncle. Second, I meant that the translation isn't faulty for me because I have read most of it myself. Most people just go by what other's have translated and if their translation is flawed then yours is too.

No, my grandfather is not an imam, he is regarded as a Sheikh by many, even other Sheikhs call him a Sheikh but he doesn't regard himself as one because he believes that he is still a student with much to learn. That's one thing I really admire about him, he is extremely humble. The Quran is very tough to fully understand but from what I have read, my grandfathers translation makes the most sense by far.

Sorry about calling your grandfather your uncle. My mistake and I apologise. He seems like a totally admirable person and has a refreshing view of learning throughout life that I believe too.

If my translations of other translations are flawed, then it stand to reason that there are faulty translations, which does go against what you said origianlly, especially when you accept that the kuran is tough to fully understand.

No problem. Sorry if I sounded a bit harsh. As for the translation argument, whatever I guess I am being ignorant by believing that my translation isn't faulty. It's 4:34 am where I live so im quite tired, my arguments might not make complete sense.

For me it's a tie between:

"Yippie-Kai-Yay ************." - Die Hard series.

and

"Say hello to my little friend." - Scarface.
