'The incomplete storytelling, combined with a series of tepid final encounters, unfortunately softens the sting of the conclusion's slashing and gnashing.'
That's because you didn't play the ending. The ending is being released as DLC to help sell the Season Pass.
Why didn't Tom update his review? This almost feels like it should be an Other Take since it's a different reviewer and most updated reviews are done by the original reviewer.
When I saw 8, I thought good ol' Tom. But then saw Carolyn and was like wait a minute...I wanna know Tom's updated review a year later. Not a brand new persons view on the game.
I saw that stupid Morgan Freeman/Christian Slater movie in theatres and so I've always called Heavy Rain -> Hard Rain. I remember when I went into GS years ago to buy HR, I kept calling it Hard Rain and the employee is trying to find the game in the computer and he finally says after several minutes "Do you mean Heavy Rain?" >_<
Thank you Tom for a great, unbiased review! I'm glad you didn't poo all over this game. If the PC port wasn't amazing, I would have scored the game even lower but I think 6-7 is perfect for this game.
If it wasn't so linear or maybe 'interactive' like Hard Rain (button prompt chase scenes), it could be an 8. Here's hoping that SE commissions a non-linear DLC side story for this game. I need more Ghost Stories!
@jharring Yep, January '05. I still remember going to the mall at 11 am and parking by Sears, walking in between a hair salon and Aeropostale. Walking to EB across from a Sally Fields and walking to the counter and picking up my preorder before there were preorder DLC and getting the guide as well for 20% off.
And then going back to my car and opening the game right then and there. Being even happier because I was off work that day. My 2 friends got off work a few hours later and we played for days. One of them even went out and bought a GC just for RE5.
I can't remember a game that was such a system seller than RE. I guarantee that RE4 was responsible for 60% of the GC consoles sold.
@Ladiesman17 Why? If anything it was beneficial to PC because at the time there were developers who still developed games solely for PC like the venerable Looking Glass Studios or games like the Myst series. Now the only PC-exclusive games are MMO's and RTS's.
Back then there was no Console to PC ports like there are today. Games were either for PC or for console. I'd rather take that kind of PC gaming than what it is today w/ the only PC games being Console ports.
