Here is my setup.

I'm using 19" viewsonic LCD monitor with 2.1 ch speaker for xbox 360.

I have purchase 29" LG slim TV recently and 360 games looks great on SDTV but rarely playing on SDTV

I'm thinking of purchasing 32" Panasonic LCD TV for around 1200AUD. :)

Just go for it. Only thing that PS3 has over xbox360 is blue ray is standard feature. That's about it.

That would be great to make it free, but 50$ per year isn't expensive at all anyway.
