I'm just kidding.  I am not looking for a gaming rig for under $300.  Just wanted to start a discussion with some people to see if anyone else is tired of post asking for help picking a gaming computer for a certain amount of money.  If you can't log onto newegg.com and put together all the necessary parts for a computer then add them up to find a total then you shouldnt be building a computer.

I also like it when someone asks you if "this is a good computer for gaming?" and you tell them that it is out of date and needs a better graphics card and they say "im not made of money".  I have news for them, Gaming computers are NOT cheap.  If you want something good you are going to have to pay for it.

I dont mind helping someone new to pc gaming but when there are lots of people wanting a $500-700 gaming pc.  its a little hard to help them out (that is if they are starting with nothing).

Hmm possibly. You can find info on Microsoft, I think I read it one where you can activate like 5 times and after that you need to contact MS. Could be way off but seem to recall something like that. Wouldn't buy things with keys from other people, they can just as easily use it again themselves or sell it to someone else. BeavermanA
i know the guy and i dont think he would do that. if he did i could take him. it would be really stupid for microsoft to only allow a certain amount of times cause xp has been out for years and hardware is always evolving. as long as they allow me to get a new key i will be fine, if they want to charge me money im going to flip out :)

Did you set the date correctly in your BIOS? It shouldn't ask you to validate after putting in a stick of ram. You should just be able to click the validate thing and enter your key, but if its giving you that limitation message either you did it too much, I think theres a limit, or somebody got your key. Probably have to contact Microsoft support to reactivate it. BeavermanA
i bought it from someone at work. it is possible that it went over the limitation. do you think i will have to buy another cd?

Here is the deal, I just got another stick of ram and intalled it.  Upon boot up I instantly got a message from windows asking me to activate.  So I whipped out my windows xp pro cd and entered the cd key.  Then a message popped up saying something about cd is over the limit of activations.  So now im using windows that is not activated and was wondering how to activate it?  I did this once before but forgot.  I have the cd and the cd key.

I spent about half an hour searching for posts similar to this but couldnt find any.

Well for gamers, the question is will vienna have dx 10 support. Most people are going to want/ use vista so they can go play crysis and any other games in dx10 mode with their dx10 cards. That was basically how microsoft sucked them into the whole vista thing.MercenaryKnight
GOOD POINT. i dont know how i forgot about Crysis. Darn it. now im going to have to buy vista. why did you have to point that out? lol just kidding :)
