Foldin'

Hey you guys I got busy and couldn't write those posts i wanted to last week so I'll try to start whipping them out this week.

This post is about Folding @ Home, if you are a PS3 owner and you haven't done this at all yet you should be ashamed. Seriously. this is such a simple way to help out research for a bunch of diseases. Every single PS3 owner should aim for like 30 minutes of folding a day or at least two hours a week. I don't really understand the whole protein folding mumbo-jumbo, but I know it is importtant, so do like I  do If I'm on my computer or something, take the 20 seconds required to turn on your PS3 and click Folding@Home, and let it do its thing until you are ready to play.

Tony Hawk's Project 8 REVIEW

I got to the credits earlier today and I have to say. RIGHT ON!!! This game is great for fans of the series, and for the people who haven't played the Tony Hawk games, What the hell is wrong with you? I don't care if you hait wood-pushing (skateboarding) or the wood-pushers (skate punks) that infest your town. I do. But this is just a flat out fun game. The graphics are good, not the best we'll see from the PS3 but definately good.

I may get some of the new features screwed up because I skipped American Wasteland so if I mention something as new that actually first appeared last year tell me. (I know this one is from AW) The single city, no load times thing makes me really happy. However I miss all the moving vehicles from the underground games, skitching was bomb. I really like the cla-ssic feel of this game though it takes some of the mission-ish aspects from the Underground games it is mostly cla-ssic: score big, put up stunning combos, keep your balance, land your tricks kind of stuff. And the big major new feature is Nail the Trick, this is by far the coolest game mechanic ever put into a sports game. Timing, imagination, precision, a little bit of strategy, and a lot of skill make flicking analog sticks tremendous fun.

Tilt Control - I turned this on for a little while and I really liked it except, it either maps all the tricks or none of them to the tilt, so while grabs and flips, etc seem intuitive using tilt, but manuals don't work well on tilt. This is only because (at least for me) it puts you in manual with just the slightest "forward-back" motion, I'm talking movements you weren't even aware you were making. This gets really annoying and can actually ruin certain things you are trying to do. So the only improvement I can suggest is: allow certain things to be turned on while others are turned off so I could keep my grabs and flips, without manual being mapped to the tilt controls.

Unlike previous versions there is no skill level select, there are just three different levels or skill sets for each task, AM, Pro, and Sick. AM is incredibly easy even at the end of the game. Pro is challenging to a degree. And Sick is well, sick. The sick level of many tasks, especially the competitions seems almost impossible. But don't worry you can beat the game without beating every sick challenge.

If you own a PS3 you gotta at least rent this game.

I give it an 8.4 because I think eventhough this game was great I'm leaving a lot of room for improvement. Because I think the game can get so much better.

GameFly part 2

So far I am incredibly happy with this service. My games got here thursday after I chose them late Monday (After Post Office hours) so it only took 3 days for my games to get shipped here. I got Tony Hawk's Project 8, and MotorStorm. Both for PS3. The fact that they had MotorStorm and sent it to me less than a week after it game out I think says a lot.

Later this week (possibly next week) I have five scheduled postings I want to get done: My review of THP8, MotorStorm, and Resistance, GameFly part 3 (returning and getting a new game along with a full opinion of the service), and My Thoughts on My PS3 after one month of ownership.

I'll stress this again please if you are reading my blog leave me comments, messages, or email me at jag_2152000@yahoo.com I really want to know your thoughts, opinions, suggestions, etc.

GameFly

So I'm sure you've heard of GameFly.com it is in the simplest terms a Netflix for games. I signed up yesterday and have so far been impressed, I have two games already in the mail and they should be here next week. I am really impressed with some of the features they have to offer. Such as being able to purchase the game you are currently renting using a simple click of the button. Along with reviews for most of their games from the major sites including GameSpot and IGN. I'll update later this week about GameFly but for now if you need are going to sign up please email me at jag_215200@yahoo.com I'll send you a link. If I get five people to sign up for a month (it's only 8.95 I get a DS Lite.

EA gets Zabranskified

Ok non-football fans quick background the best college game of this last season was the Oklahoma Sooners vs the Boise State Broncos in the Fiesta Bowl. Oklahoma had a lead but BSU made two of the most daring and exciting play calls ever to win the game in by one. This come back was led by their quarterback Jared Zabranski. Today it was announced that he would be the cover athlete for NCAA Football 08 from EA. I just can't decide if I like the decision or not.

I like that they chose the best player from the best game of the year but I can't help questioning putting someone on the cover who has almost no hope of a successful NFL career. I believe that the best player from the best game idea should have applied last year (Vince Young should have been on the cover not Reggie Bush) but Vince is different he has a long successful career ahead of him. The thing is I can't give you a name of a good replacement so my arguement is almost poitless so why bother tell me what you think.

Let's get ready

I have played some of the best boxing games ever Fight Night Round 3, Mike Tyson's Punch Out, but my favorite memories involving boxing are of plugging two controllers into my N64 and beating my brothers at Ready 2 Rumble. The sequel Ready 2 Rumble Round 2 disapointed me but according to this my favorite boxing franchise of all time is getting another chance I for cannot wait heres to it coming to PS3, hopefully.

This annoucement really surprised me because me and some friends were just talking about how amazing this game was. Creepy.

Revitalization and Immersion

Ok I abandoned the blog for a little while but I'm back hopefully for good.

Here's what my topic today is Sony finally doing something that will benefit the PS3. In case you haven't heard Sony finally settled and have made an agreement with Immersion (they hold a force feedback patent and one a law suit with Sony last year) and this means vibration will be coming back to PlayStation very soon.

This is a relief for me as when Sony refused the offer by (I can't remember the name of the company that came up with a force feedback solution last month, someone please help) I could think of no way to defend Sony.

Now after months of them killing me with their bone-head decisions they finally make the correct choice. The only negative is now they look like real asses after 8 months of the "rumble is last-gen" bull **** It is true that the rumble feature is so grossly overated it's not even funny, I'm very glad Sony swallowed there pride for once since E3 and gave the fans what they wanted.

Sony gets there first gold star of 2007.

I promise to write more guys sorry for disappearing on you.

GS Blog 6: E3 Done With!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!

E3 is over as we know it. This is news you've undoubtedly heard a million times now.

Here's how I feel.

Pros-------

Moving the show to July will make it so less-than-ready trailors and demos are more scarce.

A more private media event will make it more about the games and less about the crazyness.

Smaller shows are suddenly bigger and more important.

Our gaming news will be more year around instead of getting hit with information overload once a year.

Cons-------

The mystique of E3 is gone.

Obviously from my list you can tell I support the change. The new format will make E3 a better news gathering event. Very few of us can go to E3 and eagerly sit at our computers awaiting news. However each year we are hit with more news than we can handle so a lot of it goes undigested. And because E3 isn't quite the event it was before we'll get big announcements year round instead of during a week. The best part of the show (pre-show press events) probably won't go away. So all in all we the gamers win.

GS Blog 5: Rainbow Six: Vegas dispute

I live in a city called Henderson, NV it's basically an extension of Las Vegas. In Las Vegas there are more people, casinos, and former mob-lawyer mayors (one more to be exact). This mayor's name is Oscar Goodman he has a habit of being excentric (he once said of people who would graffiti are new highway decor, "I wish we could cut off there thumbs" or something along those lines) has announced he will be trying to force Ubisoft to cancel Rainbow Six Vegas set for release later this year or possibly early 2007.

When I first heard about this game I thought, "Damn, this is going to piss people off and scare the hell out of half the idiots in this city." Then I thought, "I gotta get this game." Oscar is saying that the game is "based on a false premise," adding he has been repeatedly told by
government officials that Las Vegas is "the safest place imaginable" (Like hell Vegas is the safest place imageinable. True, It's safer then most large tourist attraction city's but come on. It is farely safe from terrorist threat though. This is mostly because Nellis Airforce Base is about thirty minutes from the strip with good traffic on the ground and 1 1/2 minutes through the air. Also every point of possible terrorist intrigue is crawling with armed guards 24/7. So terrorist takeover of a Vegas resort is unlikely to say the least.) Oscar has also said there could be economic repercussions to the city. Yes, this is true but not nearly bad enough to worry about.

I'm from Vegas and I will definetly 100% guarteed own this game and I suggest you do the same.

Better Game Ratings?

A panel for the United States House of Representatives has said that the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) should improve its rating system.

No due respect to this panel but you guys got to get your heads out of your ass and actually look at this system. The American Video Game Industry's which is run by the industry sponsored ESRB has the best system in america compared to other forms of media like the movie industry or music industry and TV. The ESRB has ratings that discriminate against ages (ex: T for Teens) and it lists the reasons why the ratings are there. (Read the rating panel on the back of any video game case made in the last like 10 years and you'll see a list of things in the game that may affect a parents decision to buy the game for they're child.) Also the ESRB will actually change they're ratings if new information arrises (GTA:SA) something I've never seen the movie industry do. Also these ratings are virtually mandetory I don't think you'll ever see an unrated video game at major retailers like you do movies. (ex: You can get Grandma's Boy the special Unrated Edition at Wal'mart but have you ever seen something like Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Urated Version? No.) Ya, GTA:SA beat this system but it was immediately addressed by the ESRB.

The commitee also said, and I quote, "Simulated violence and sexual content found in video games are undermining the efforts of parents to responsibly raise their children." All of these things are clearly listed on the video game packaging. The only way this could undermine your efforts to responsibly raise your kids are if you are illiterate. And in that case you are probably not fit to be a mother any way. It is not not the ESRB's, Wal'Mart's, or the Government's responsibility to make sure your kids don't get games you don't want them to have. It's yours. Parents shut the hell up with these bull **** lawsuits and do YOUR OWN parenting responsibilities. That is all, thank you.
