the occasional visual glitches dont even phase me. there are just so many positives in this game that all minor flaws are forgettable and i suppose a patch may be forthcoming, but i couldnt care less. Everything i hoped for and more. so many awesome twists and turns and im only 9 hours in. unlocked a new specialization class.......very cool! anyone thinking about buying this game - stop thinking and go get it!

best bang for your $ is Mass effect and the game is amazing. Assassins is too short but can be very fun and the graphics are incredible. but the gameply can be a bit tricky at times and a little repetitive. My friend just finished cod4 and said it was a great single player camapaign but if you arent gonna do multiplayer then you wont get your moneys worth unless you replay the single player on the harder diff settings. I definitely reccomend Mass Effect, everything is just solid and it is impossible to put down - very satisfying and the difficulty is just right on normal, if anything it is tough on normal at some parts......but there are so many possibilities and different ways to play the game that you can easily hit 60-80 hours of gamplay. im 10 hours in and prob 20 % complete on my 1st playthrough and plan to do multiples to see diff parts of story and differentendings. pay no attention to the GS review......not a faithful interpretation of the game.

The storyin this game is as engaging as anything i have ever watched, played or seen in a very long time. I personally believe that if they work on the visual glitches and other small issues that they have, that when all is said and done with this trilogy, it may be the finest and most satisfying experience in VG history. Ambitious i know, but there is little reason to believe that this series of gameswill be anything but groundbreaking. I know it will prob be 2 1/2 - 3 years between games, but it will be well worth the wait. MASS EFFECT!!

[QUOTE="xXx_Rork_xXx"][QUOTE="clarkportmanken"]

[QUOTE="outbreak201"]hey i take back all what i said about mass effect...This game OWNS...just took a little time to get use to for me!! but ya THIS GAME ROCKS !!! galaxy map...dune buggies!!! biotics!!! HELL YA!!!! outbreak201

at first i felt the same way was a bit let down, but it was mostly cause i didn't like the look of my character(lol bit shallow i know lol) anyways i made a new character started playing and damnnnnnnnnn i luv this game its one of my new favorite games of all times luv the story and dialogue animation everything. also i luv how you can turn the film grain on and off sometimes i think it works really well others i prefer to see everything more clearly. anyways the only thing im not to crazy about is some of the music but i can replace it with my own. i luv this game and it surprised me how good it turned out to be.

this is an amazing month every console released what i personally think is the best game on the console to date. November rocks thanks bioware.

Can someone please explain this 'film grain' effect, because I have never heard of it. What does it look like and when can you activate it?

1. it makes your screen filled with little dots.

2. why would you want to activate it when it makes the game look fugly

do you deactivate it in the options screen?

To everyone defending Gamespot's score of 8.5:

Did you ever consider the fact that Eternal Sonata got the exact same score? It's a fun little J-RPG, but come on. It didn't do anything to move the genre forward or revolutionize the way the genre is played. That's why it deserves that score. Mass Effect has it's issues no doubt, however it has raised the bar for RPG's the world over. In areas of graphics, voice acting, story, and gameplay it has pushed real time RPG's to the next level. I personally feel Kevin really didn't recognize that in his review. He seems to enjoy light hearted RPG's more. He has the right. He can in fact rate a game however he so desires. I on the other hand feel the game deserves better, and I too am entitled to my opinion. BOOYAKASHA!

JFRocker

most intelligent point ever made on this website. well done. somtimes i dont even think they take into account passed scores. i cant stop playing this game and is an immersive experience to say the least. so much to do/see. Instant classic in my opinion and the most off a review score has ever been on this site. a friend of mine said they must be short staffed at GS or something. This Van nord guy did both AC and ME, and questuionable reviews for both, there is outrage for a reason, its because the population as a whole sees the games as better or worse when it comes to these 2 particular reviews. Most of the time i find that they complain about things in a review that i would have never noticed had i not read/watched the review, or didnt even happened when i played. like the bioshock freezing bug, never happened and i had30 hours in that game. multiple playthroughs. they are overly critical at this site. I always go to the meta review website and take all opinions into account. but i still know what games i want to play before any review ever comes out and have never been swayed either way. i just think this one (mass effect) review is comical.

hey - i havent reached that part yet but if you open your journal and open up that mission/assignment then it will give you a detaield description of how to get there (im asuming cause i had the same problem with the "fist" mission in the bar. It takes a little getting used to with figuring out where to go, but other than that this game is SICK!

for every system i get less and less confidence in gamespots reviews... the reviewer contradicted himself buy saying combat was weak in the summary but then applauding the combat in the actual review.... do editors even read these after they are written? i'll stick with ign's take....

im not surprised by the reviews, gamespot always waits until all other reviews are already done THEN just takes a point or half point off to look more "critical".... when i look back at past reviews of games i've finished i consistantly find ign's review system more reliable and consistant between reviewers... gamespots reviews are all over the place, so are 1up's

ajefferism

As true as anything that has been written in these forums. with the exception of Halo 3 - Gamespot has been lowballing rewviews for the better part of this year. The darkness got an 8.5 which was fun but had no replay value and a below average multiplayer. the few visual issues and hard menu (whatever that means) knock a point and a half off? and he is afraid of the big monsters that come out of the ground because they are hard to kill. Yeah ok.......bad review by a bad reviewer. this guy gave metroid prime 3 an 8.5 too and AC a 9. i just finished AC and it is an 8.5 at best! the majority of the reviews from all sites are falling in the 9.5-10 area. IMO this guy had a bias before he played the game and it shows. if you listen to his voice in the video review he treats it like a chore - a tell tale sign that someone was bothered by even having to review the game.

it is definitely a unique experience. the visuals are excellent and the gamplay is very smooth with few or no hiccups. If you are and FPS veteran and have played games like half life you wont be lost at all. Big daddy fights only become slightly easier because your arsenal increases as he game goes on and you know how to take them down with less trouble. some cool achievments for the game that lend itself to replayability and the game has a story that is as good as any video game put there. I cant think of a reason not to bu ythe game. Its just a really good blend of new and old of FPS with some slight RPG elements that help you play the way you want. GO GET IT!

just for some clarification on this. i just visited bioware.com and one of the cool things about their forums is that the design team actually comments on the game and one of the designers said that he recently did a detailed playthrough, visited all the worlds and did all the little side quests and outiftted his squad in a detailed manner and hejust hit the halfway point of the game in 20 hours. that says enough for me. sounds like it will be a very memorable experience.
