whats the 65nm anywayTrueplaya1590
The 360 is- eventually- going to get a new CPU, switched from a 90nm to 65nm...What this means to the average gamer is that it runs cooler, and is less prone to get the RRoD then the current ones, but the current 360s aren't really that prone to failiure as long as you keep it well ventilated.

does anyone know when it will be safe to buy xbox 360's? like which batch manufacturing date would be safe?

opelunited
The most recent ones have a new heatsink installed, try to look for one made after July 07- thats the latest i'm sure about. If you're reffering to the 65nm processors, then no one knows when those will come out, but its rumored to be sometime this fall...The current ones are fine, as long as you have it ventilated well.

I'm going to get one tomorrow. Any tips on how to prevent disc scrathing and the othe problems? I'm thinking that having it lie down is the best way to keep a 360 longer.

You could use the D-Skin covers to prevent your discs from scratching(if they can be read with DS on). And keep your 360 in a WELL VENTILATED area(away from ANY heat source), such as a TV, heater, anything that uses electricity basically. And I would reccommend taking long breaks after a few hours of gaming to prevent overheating and putting your 360 in front of a fan or air conditioner to cool it down while you are on that break. But these tips may not be needed if you were to wait for the 65nm and quiter DVD drives to come out. But IF your 360 does fail, DO NOT TRY TO TAKE IT APART OR THE TOWEL TRICK, just take it back to the retailer and get a new one.

*Take it apart* I wouldn't even know what to do with it then

*Towel Trick* It sounds good, but what if the water seaps? I agree with you on that one.

*fan* I've got a ceiling fan that's always on, and I'll probably make a make-shift racke or something that will allow the 360 to ventilate on all sides.

Well, thanks. But still, having the 360 on it's side, would that help with anything?

Having it on its side helps with its ventilation...I'd reccomend putting the 360 on the top rack of this:

http://www.amazon.com/Mad-Catz-Horizontal-Rack-PlayStation/dp/B000KITCF6

since it fits perfectly, and using the bottom of it for keeping your games and stuff...I know that it says it's a PS3 console rack, but i own one of these and i have my 360 on it, on top of my ps3, and it gets great ventilation...Just put the top rack so that the indent is behind the xbox's back and the xbox fits perfectly on it.

No, don't use D-Skins, that will mess up your DVD drive. If you want to keep it on when it's in storage, then fine, but D-Skins are awful...*speaking from personal experience, they killed a CD player i had...*

considering how the xbox has a 3 year warranty in case it gives you the RRoD, then i'd think it would be safe to get it...Besides, if your xbox RRoD's and MS cant fix it, then they send you a brand new xbox, by which time the 65nm's might be out.

Edit: Make sure you save your original recipt, and make a copy of it since recipts from stores fade after a while of keeping them in storage- it always is better just to put it in a copy machine and keep both the original and the copy.

You'd be much better off listing it on something like eBay, or if you don't do online transactions maybe there's a kijiji for your location...and if not then pay like $7 and get an add in your local classifieds, Eb will rip you off hardcoreScarface_tm431
Agreed, and if you don't want to put it on ebay then craigslist can be a great alternate to it, since you can even arrange for them to pick it up there.

PS3 online is great, i've never had any lag, but the descision to buy one is ultimately yours, you have to look at the games avalible and games that are going to come out and decide if it is worth a $500-600 investment to you.

alright, thanks for your help guys :D i think i have a bit of a better understanding now. im gonna get it in the store, cause i dont trust them shipping me a monitor haha, and i think when i got ill check out which monitors have what interfaces. i dont really *need* hdmi, cause i only plan on playing in 720p, but it would be a nice addition, especially if i get a 1080p enabled monitor.

thanks again for all your help... now comes the fun shopping around part lol

ballasteve

hey good luck man, it usually is a good idea to get monitors in person at a store, as long as you explain what you need to the people there then you'll be fine. :D

Yeah, HDMI carries sound, but DVI doesn't...Since you're connecting it to a screen with DVI it wouldn't be able to get the sound from the PS3 unless you use the stock RCA cables for sound...Most PC screens don't have built-in speakers anyway, and if they do then they would have to have a separate audio input...If you want to use an HDMI to DVI cable you have to hook up the PS3 to a separate sound system, sucks, i know, but nowadays you can find a good 5.1 surround sound system that takes RCA audio input and sounds amazing- thats what i did, and it sounds great, even though it only cost $80.
