Word at the installbase forums is that the well ran dry and Sony can't produce enough PS5's to finish anything but third place this generation, at least until the chip shortages are over which are estimated to be as far back as 2026.

Apparently the Xbox Series S is much easier to produce and MS really lucked out because it wasn't even planned for Covid shortages, as that was pre pandemic.
