Yeah... it's funny how when a PC game is later ported to consoles that it's all good news for the people playing the console version, while when a console game is ported to PC, or built to be cross-platform from the ground up, it's always bad news for PC gamers. Kind of speaks a ton about the quality of console games.

If you're looking for RTS and space sim, the game combining both is Homeworld. If you run UT2004, you should also be able to run this one. Also try the add-on, Homeworld: Cataclysm.

Yes, I am advertising what I believe to be a great independent project to build a space combat sim MMO with a huge universe. I really don't know if the developers (it's only one programmer plus some 2D and 3D artists basically) will manage to pull this off and actually have working servers if the game gets finished, but they've been at work since late 2004, and there are some cobat prototypes available for download. Check the trailer and see for yourself... this game actually has great graphics (I'd say on par with EVE Online) and the gameplay in the prototype available for download is quite good.

Yup, the game (at least on PC) isn't bad at all, I finished it once. I believe that all the bugs that were present on the X-Box must have seriously detracted from the game's value. I also read the Ender series, so probably my appreciation of Orson Scott Card's writing makes me a bit subjective when analyzing this game.

As for a sequel, this game was originally planned to be part one of a trilogy, but the developer's website doesn't mention any sequel being in production.

Overrated: The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion

This link will take you to a sincere review of the game. And pretty funny, too. But long story short, Oblivion, while still a fun game to play, derived most of its fun from the setting, which was actually established in the previous TES games. The gameplay mechanics have been severely dumbed-down from Morrowind, not to speak of Daggerfall, the engine is pretty unoptimized, and the game seems to be built from the ground up to cater only to the mass audience that regularly plays Halo on X-Box, because the long-time fans of the series will end up buying it anyway.

Edit: This is the sincere review I was talking about. The former is merely funny, but actually does point out all the flaws in the game.

Underrated: Hitman: Codename 47

To think that Gamespot actually gave the first installment of the Hitman series a 5.2 (mediocre) mark seems mind-boggling now. Even more so when you take a look at the detailed marks, and see that the very same gameplay that was the trademark of the entire series and got consistently high scores starting with Hitman 2, got only 4 on the review for Codename 47. Moreover, at some point in the review, low replay value and linear missions are cited as a cause for the bad score – if you actually played the game, you'd know there are at least 2-3 ways to complete any mission without even blowing everyone to smithereens. Funny that, Hitman 2, 3 and 4 followed the same rules while adding this and that to what proved to be a good game mechanic, and because they were hyped more before game release, they were all rated "Great".

If you only want to download FreeSpace 2 SCP, and not have to browse the Hard Light Forums for it (though if you're genuinely interested, I suggest you do), you can take the shortcut and go to the downloads section of the Source Code Project Homepage, and for the latest Media VPs, you can go to the Freespace Upgrade Forum.
