Hey i have a pretty crappy Pc (2.8 Celeron , 512 Ram, Intel graphics :(  )
And am Getting a new Pc in the summer
Either a |3GHZ Pentium D/256 7600 GS/2GB Ram/| Or Step up to a |2.13 or 2.4 Core2/512 7950GT/2GB Ram|
Either way i plan on seeing a BIG difference.
But i dont wanna waste my money on something that will be old by summer,Probally would be faster if i waited, And cheaper if i waited (core2's are set to drop 30-50% :)  With 4mb Cache Standard) But what can i do to Hold Me over until then. I think Some Extra Ram (512 More) and a PCI graphics card (No agp.. Or Pci x16 :( ) Would be good.
I just want something to Play WoW @ 1024 x 768 Until i buy a new Pc to play it on.
I really would like to know what would be the best ideas and cheapest (I feel any upgrades on something this old is kinda a waste)
Currently i have probs running at 800 x 600 With everything on low :( I know either the ram or the GPU is the bottleneck (21% CPU , Wow Using 300+ Ram, Ect. it cant be the CPU )
What can i do to help?(For cheap)

The 8600 Ultra?
The article says that the 7600's and the 7900's will be phased out in favor if these..
So if i waited until summer (Witch i will.) Would it be able to work?
The Hp if i got a HP would only have a 350 Watt PSU and i dont know if that would work at all.
But if HP gets rid of the 7600GT and just replaces it witha  8600 UL then id just get that. :D

[QUOTE="jsl99944704"]I think he should wait till prices drop (April 2.4 Core 2 for 2.13 Prices! And the 2 Bottom ones get 4Meg Cache)
Also wait for The Geoforce 8600 Ultra.
Im waiting for that too (And hoping a prebuilt company offers them. Building seems risky to me)

April? That's a few months off yet - not so long that an upgrade can't wait, but if this guy needs a computer, now is as good a time as any to buy. Use EVGA for the step-up program, or better yet, just get the 320MB 8800GTS - or even wait and see what ATI fires back with. As for building seeming risky, 95% of all the forum regulars here built the very machines they're typing to you from. Seems reliable enough to me, since I have yet to meet anyone on here with a degree in computer science.

Yeah but knowing me i would Put the plug into the wrong place (Weird because i know about computors. Just not too good at all of the insides..) What im wondering is if i got a HP would it be able to handle a 8600 Ultra ? It has a 350Watt PSU and i can get a Core2 2.4 2024Ram for about 1000 With coupons. But i would prefer DX10. (especially because They only offer a 7600 ) But http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=37203 Said the 7900GT & GS and the 7600's Will be phased out with The 8600's So i guess i'll Just wait for that.

[QUOTE="ZeusH8su"] Are you looking for a budget system?
Here you go
C2D 6300
187.99 and can overclock it to 6600 speeds the only difference would be that it wont have the 4m of L2 cache.
Asus P5N-E SLi
139.99
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB
167.99 after rebates 207.99 before
Antec true power 550
99.99
7900GS---
184.99 with rebate=164.99
Good card to have until more DX10 card become available.

Total about 822.00 before shipping and before rebates.

Enjoy.

[QUOTE="theragu40"]Go for the Mac if you're not going to be gaming. There are a lot more useful (and free) productivity tools related to school with the Mac that would be very helpful as a student. Plus, if you ever get a hankering for some Windows action, you can dual-boot XP and OSX. For the non-gaming student, Macs are a no-brainer. However, don't get caught up with the whole "virus/spyware-proof" idea. The only reason Macs have less of a problem with viruses and spyware is that no one programs viruses for Macs because they have a lesser userbase. The more popular they get, the more problems they're going to have. Also, keep in mind that though OSX is generally more stable than Windows, if you are actually able to break it and get it to crash, you're in a world of hurt. I've never seen a cheap Mac fix...when it's broken, there's no guesswork - it's really broken (which could be seen as either a bad thing or a good thing, I suppose).

Actually...NO They used to have as many viruses as windows when they had..Less marketshare (OS9) But they moved to Unix and improved security with that and did some other security things and now have no problems. If you really think about how Unix -vs- Windows Security works you would know why. Programs can only touch their own files. IE a virus could only touch files in its native folder. Thats why the only virus can only touch the Folders under the file its in. And put together Linux + Mac + Unix have ~14% Marketshare and still no virus's. I would get a mac if the Pro Didnt cost so much or the Macbook Had ok Graphics. Then again i saw the MBP online With 2Gigs of Ram for only 1,600 Before so i could find that. But the macbook is supposed to get a "OK" Gpu because this is only the first gen of intel machines. They just took what was in their dev kit and made it into the Mini's And macbook

Edit: Also Macs can run windows now so its not a  problem.
Also macs Do have games Just not the ones people care about (Counterstrike,Ect)
Also Halo was designed for the mac! (G3 actually)

Yea well VIAO's are just as expensive as macs, I don't know why you would spend so much for a brand. Linux+beryl looks waaay better than OSX tho, so don't get it for the aesthetics of the OS.Baselerd
Actually. More expensive (Their Equivelent to a macbook at least the one my teacher has is 2000$! And is new with a pentium M! (Has the most amazing screen ever though) Now Do this. Price out a Dell 1405 With 2.0Ghz Core2 Draft-N Vista 1GB Ram 80Gig HD Bluetooth Ect. Same specs as a macbook.. What does it come to? Well for me 1,240 So $60 Difference Actually without the rebates its 50$ MORE after the intel switch pricing has been VERY good. (Also macmall has one with 2gb Ram for 1,200 or had it (Sells out quick) )

The hardware prices on a mac can't be justified by any means. If you like the idea of no viruses, get linux instead. However if you wanna look really trendy get a mac, just make sure you park it at starbucks 24/7.Baselerd
Compare it to a Compareably featured Pc. They cost about the Same (At least the Macbook Both that and the 14" Dell cost the same) Also if your using something 6+ Hours a day why be cheap
