I've been waiting for LB2 since SNK started releasing Neo-Geo on the Virtual Console. Hopefully MotW comes soon too. Maybe in time for Wii-U launch?

I want Nintendo to hire Platinum Games to make a spiritual successor to Vanquish (It could happen, Nintendo is publishing Bayonetta 2). They could set it in the Metroid universe. You would play as a Federation trooper in an experimental, phazon powered suit. The mission would be to break into a Space Pirate ship that is on its way to unleash a Metriod infestation on your home planet. For those of you who never played Vanquish (go play it) it's a cover based 3rd person shooter that is freeking nuts. Imagine Gears of War on a concoction of 1 part steroids, 2 parts speed and a dash of LSD.

The short version of my question is, where do you rank the Soul Calibur in your list of favorite fighting games. If you just want to quickly answer that, then skip the rest of this post. If you want a little more insight into where I'm coming from, read on. I love fighting games. 2D, 3D, Capcom, SNK, Namco, VF, MK, GGX, it's my favorite genre. My absolute favorite series is Soul Calibur, even 3 and 5. Well someone recently pointed out to me that people who love fighting games are generally not that keen on SC. Likewise, people who love SC dont tend to be fighting game enthusiasts. He asked me, as an exception to that rule, why I thought that might be. The best answer I could come up with, was that there doesnt seem to be as much of a gap between experienced and casual players in SC as there is in most other fighting franchises. A person can pick up SC for the first time and, after a few rounds of practice, start holding their own. That isnt something I see when playing Tekken for example. Once you memorize a Tekken characters long-ass juggle combo, a new player isnt going to have much luck against you. Also, SC tends to have a slower pacing to the combat than a lot of other fighters, especially 2D games. Anyway, I was just looking for other peoples opinions on the matter. In a nutshell, what do you like/dislike about Soul Calibur compared to other fighting games and why? Thank you for your input everyone!

I almost skipped this generation, but then Brutal Legend happened. Still, the focus on online and the death of split screen multiplayer have made me less excited about things to come. I'm hoping Wii U brings back local multiplayer to the mainstream.

I wouldn't say that the gaming market as a whole really changed much when SEGA dropped out of the console business. But SEGA changed a lot. I was so sad when they started making licensed games like Iron Man. They recently tried to get a little of their old identity back with Valkyria Chronicles and Resonance of Fate, but those both met with lukewarm sales. They probably would have done better on Dreamcast 2.

SS4, Really? IMO it was average at best, not as bad as 3 (which it was terrible) but definitely far from the perfection of SS2, in fact any fighter fan should check Samurai Shodown 2, now that was an amazing game (also available on the VC).

madsnakehhh
But Samurai Shodown 4 is the one where you can "Escape pinch by bursting rage!"

Seriously!? I've been waiting for The Last Blade to come out on anything since I lost my Dreamcast copy of LB2 years ago. Thank you so much for telling me this. I haven't looked on VC for a long time.

I know not everyone gets into this series, but I love Samurai Shodown Collection. Really wish they would release the Last Blade games on PSN or something because I lost my Dreamcast copy years ago :(

In Brutal Legend when you first ride one of those panthers that can shoot lazers out of their eyes. Also, Baten Kaitos when.... (Spoiler Warning) ... You find out Kalas betrayed you and wiped your memory so you would keep helping him.

Lord of the Rings: Return of the King and Alien Hominid are great. Also Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance is good but it has a choppy frame rate on the GC.
