Seems to depend on the server I think. The servers I play on has the avatars except for some maps.

Just keep it and use it as a PhysX card when you get a new GPU. That is what I plan on doing with my GTX 260.

Yeah, but hats are purely cosmetic. And the weapons you can unlock through gameplay. It's not like you HAVE to have the weapons. I do pretty well with vanilla spy, scout, medic, sniper, and soldier.

Heh i'm going to be upgrading from my gtx 260 to ghe gtx 570. Going to buy that card week before BF3 comes out :D.gunmaster55555
You should probably wait for the next-gen cards that should be coming. The release of the GTX 590 and MARS edition cards by Asus shows that the 500 series is reaching the end of its lifecycle. People have been talking about the Kepler chipsets and hopefully we see significant performance increases with a greater reduction of heat.

At 0:29, if you study the tree branch the bird is sitting on, it is just an image plastered on to a cylinder. Try running a Heaven benchmark with a GTX 580 and see what tessellation via Directx11 brings. That branch would have depth with 3d buds and individuals for each bud on the tree branch. Even my Macbook Pro with the 6750m would be able to render that footage with ease. Then again, the MBP eats through CAD like candy.

[QUOTE="hartsickdiscipl"]

I can't tell you when the new AMD/Nvidia cards will be out, but I can tell you that the GTX 400/500 and AMD 5800/6800/6900 series cards should be able to run BF3 just fine.

I subscribe to this notion as well. However, since I have an HD 4800 series card, I too am hoping for some new GPUs around the time of BF3's debut. If I'm going to get a new card I might as well get the newest edition.

My GTX 260 is starting to show its age which is why I am on the fence about this. I don't want to plunker down on a 500 series and see something come out that is better. I was just mentioning this because when Asus releases the MARS cards, that means the life cycle is coming to a close. But it isn't like there is Directx 12 so I am curious about what the 600/7000 series would be. Perhaps a Tick Tock Tock cycle for Directx 11.

I've been thinking about picking up a GTX 580 or waiting for any next gen grahpics cards to come out. I'm saying this because Asus is releasing the Mars II and the previous Mars was quickly replaced by the 400 series by nVidia a couple months later. Any idea when we'll be see the GTX 600 series or 7000 series?

What I enjoy about Macs is that they are thin and look nice. Not sure if it is worth the $2000 premium though. If they were priced at $1500, I would consider the 15" model a steal.

I've been looking at the G500 but have heard alot of bad things about it (It does not track well on cloth pads, the sensor is horrible, bad sensor location, etc). Any input on the G500? I've also read about negative and positive acceleration.
