true we may have been casuals at ome point but none of the games...at least in my gen which is the nes gen...were like wii sports or big brain academy and games of that nature. it was mario and zelda, sonic final fantasy...and because of that i am a hardcore gamer today. but casual gamers of this gen are going to continue to want games like wii sports simple and fun. while i would enjoy that once in a while its not enough to hold my attention. theres no drive to make me want to play wii sports for a whole night whereas a game like say God of War or Halo will keep me wanting to push throught the story.
Did you read what your wrote? Back in the NES days all games were "simple and fun". And you are saying you became a hardcore gamer because of that. Nintendo is now returning to the "simple and fun" days. The Nes is Nintendo's highest selling console and one of the main reasons is because it was "simple and fun" and they are attempting to emulate the NES's success witha similar approach. You can't claim that what they are doing is bad then say they should be doing the exact same thing you are saying is bad.
The games like Mario Zelda and Final Fantasy evolved into hardcore games through each generation and you followed them. A lot of people didnt follow them though. That is why console sales have been steadily decreasing. Nintendo may be going back to the simple days and catering for the casuals but they are certainly not going to abandon their loyal hardcore fanbase and neither will Microsoft or Sony.
Re-read my statement i said wii games are simple and fun...whereas games like super mario were fun games but they werent games like wii sports which are very simple

i understand what you are saying but thats just my point...my thought is that hardcore games will be pushed back and we will see more games like wii sports and guitar hero not that those arent good games but look at the wii's line up. i mean sure there are good games in there metroid, smg, ssbb, but compared to the 360 or ps3 lineup we can see where the developer attention is going to...

The hardcore games wont be pushed back. The same amount of hardcore games will remain. It might even grow. With the influx of casuals to the industry Companies will be wanting to make more games to make more money. This means more video game developers will be hired. With more staff they will be able to shift extra focus to these casual games while still keeping others to make the hardcore games.Companies are about making money after all and will continue making games for a market that will make them money.
Once again i agree with some of your statement but there is a flaw...maybe not a flaw but there is some bad to come if what you say is true. Think about this...this gen we have seen game prices raised from $49.99 to $59.99. I believe development will only be more expensive and hiring more workers will lead to more use of company resources and more workers to be paid. Development costs may be higher because of the new technology which will be used and game prices will rise. I guess what im trying to say is that in the end i think us hardcore gamers will be taking some hits whether it be financially or entertainment wise.

i dont think the NES...SNES or N64 were kiddy...if anything they were the ones that brought us the basis for games like Final Fantasy...Grand theft Auto, MAdden, Halo etc not that GTA or Halo was developed on any of those systems but the fact that games like Ocarina of time introduced the targetin system and the open worlds or how goldeneye or perfect dark brought innovation to the fps genre on consoles. i think those platforms play a big role in the success of todays blockbuster games

Is it possible to actually have a discussion in system wars and not have a couple of fanboys screaming "ur console is teh suxxors!!"
Im curious as to why many owners of the 360 and/or ps3's seem to hate the wii so much. I for one agree with the approach nintendo is taking with the wii in that it provides us with new gameplay opportunities. I also dont really have a problem with the fact that the wii is very underpowered compared to its "rivals" the ps3 and 360. the one thing that concerns me about the approach with the wii is the fact that nintendo seem to be aiming for the casual crowd and so far they seem to be gaining ground in that area. What im saying is that i think if nintendos plan of getting casuals into gaming is a huge success it might lead developers into they same mindset. Now while that may not be a bad thing introducing new people to gaming it makes me think that soon most developers will concentrate on getting games to draw in casuals and forget about us hardcore gamers who wait months sometimes years for the epic games that we love so much. I would like the opinions of the rest of you guys on whether you think its possible that soon developers may cater to the casuals and that blockbuster games like GOW, HAlO, ZELDA may be put on the back of the line?
