@kaminobenimizu: Regardless I'm excited about the NX, but I think I'll wait for the NX 3D version to come out. I can't play 2D games handheld anymore, the 3DS really spoiled me to 3D.
@7tizz: So basically just cause I like Sony, I need to trash Nintendo for no reason?
If you look at my past posts, I've trashed Nintendo tons of times, but this is the one time where I think they made the right move.
My philosophy was simple either Nintendo goes pure power I.E like 8 teraflop 4K Beast system that blows everything outta the water. Which we all know Nintendo won't do.
Or they leave the home console space and become a handheld only company. Looks like I was right, they chose number two. I predicted this would happen, since they don't have the ballz to go all out with a 4k monster machine.
Personally, I've owned and loved every Nintendo handheld console since Gameboy, so for them to go pure handheld is a dream come true. Nintendo no longer needs to worry about splitting their development resources between handheld and home console and they don't have to compete directly with Sony and MS, its the best option.
You seem to believe that loving one console means hating another, that's just kids talk. Real gamers don't care which console wins.
@7tizz: I told you I'm a Sony fan, so enough with fanboy crap.
If you're gonna nit pick its 58.7 million userbase. http://www.vgchartz.com/
Stop comparing to the Gameboy dude, stop living in the past. PS2 sold what 155 Million units, PS4 is at what 42.5 million units, does that mean the PS4 is dead? According to you, because PS4 only sold 42.5 million and not 155 million like the PS2, then PS4 is dead. This ain't 1982 anymore, people have more things to do with there lives to play games all day, ain't no system in 2016 is ever gonna sell 118 million units. So stop pretending its 1982, if you like the big shoulder pads and shit.
Plus the 3DS at 58.7 million units sold, means that there are 58.7 million people still prefer to play games on there dedicated handheld device than on a smart phone. Personally I use my smartphone for work, I can't be risking losing my battery and missing an important call because of gaming. So, there is a HUGE market for dedicated handheld gaming, because a lot of people don't use there smartphones for games. And good luck playing a AAA game on a smartphone, I played Mortal Kombat on my IPhone 6, it lasted 15mins before I ran outta battery.
With that said there is 58.7 million people waiting to replace there 3DS with the NX, so how can you say with a straight face that there is no market?
@3angel29: There won't be any New 3DS exclusive games, the New 3DS was just to extend the dying 3DS hardware sales. There isn't enough New 3DS install base to justify any exclusive games, that's why there is only 1 N3DS exclusive AAA game, Xenoblade.
Think about it the 3DS has what 60 million install base, the N3DS has what less than 5 million users, its too small to justify any exclusives. Nintendo always does this, when a handheld is coming to the end of the life cycle they always come out with one last revision that's more power, think DSi XL. There were only a small handful of DSi exclusive games before the DS life cycle came to an end.
The N3DS is the same as the DSi XL, its just an last extension of the 3DS line, before the 3DS gets replaced by the NX.
Nintendo will mostly likely release an NX 3D version for those who loved the parallax 3D on the 3DS, but trust me, all Nintendo handheld games will be moving over to the NX brand. There won't be a 3DS successor.
@Motobug321: Because your Uncle isn't a number source, that's the difference. By now all third party developers already have the dev-kit, so everyone other than your uncle already knows exactly what the NX is.
@3angel29: There won't another handheld system, everything will fall under the NX for Nintendo from now on.
They will continue to support 3DS, but the next handheld system for Nintendo will be the NX, they will make numerous versions of the NX, like NX Mini, NX 3D, NX Phone, etc, but the NX brand will bridge all Nintendo games under one roof.
There will not be a difference from Nintendo handheld and Nintendo home, all games will work on the NX, it will be up to you whether you wanna play at home or on the go.
Also 3DS is very old, almost coming to an end of its life cycle, the New 3DS was just a way to sell one last batch of 3DSes before they end the console's cycle.
@7tizz: How can you say that the NX is obsolete, there are close to 60 million 3DS users out there myself included. And all of us will be upgrading to the NX once the 3DS is obsolete.
NX as an handheld console can only sell well, since 3DS is already coming to the end of its life cycle.
@7tizz: I don't consider smartphones as a competitor for the handheld market, cause realistically you can only play casual games on the smart phone, with the limit of touch controls and battery drain.
With that said the 3DS is clearly dominant in the handheld market and with Sony bowing out on the Vita 2, it leaves only one major player on the handheld scene, Nintendo.
P.S I'm not a Nintendo fanboy, I'm actually a Sony man myself.
As for Wii U, its dead, done. Zelda is the last major release, then its over. No need to bring that up anymore, its a failed console.
#@endersdragon: This why MS and Sony are coming up with so many console hardware revisions to try to get the juices flowing again in the home console market.
I predicted that Nintendo would make this move about a year ago, and accurately predicted this hybrid handheld right down to the specs and dock, it is the only logical move for Nintendo to go full handheld.
I'm glad it worked out like this, cause there was no other direction Nintendo could have gone.
A unified handheld market with all Nintendo games being the NX brand is a great move. Lets see how it'll play out. Personally I might wait for the NX 3D version to come out, because I'm too accustomed to the 3DS to go back to 2D for handheld games.
