Frankly I want Microsoft to leave the industry. They are a piss poor anti consumer replacement for sega. I am sick of this company. They gave us DLC, Paid subscriptions to play online. And now, anti used games and a complete destruction of ownership. Please just boycott this thing.
SO ya, I don't want this anti consumer steam box where i never own my games, and I sure as hell don't want it for 499$. You can go f*** yourself M$. Your moneyhatting everyone won't change anything. Boycott the xbone!
I hope people boycott this steambox. This box is anti consumer with its heavy DRM. Remember, you will NEVER own your games with this console. 500$ for this POS? Seriously? Please don't support this crap just because they are holding a couple of brands hostage like killer instinct and dead rising etc.
Doesn't look like they provide a physical retail package tier....no sale for me until then. And the physical game tier would have to not be steam crippled too, no DRM bullshit.
The intellectually dishonest who frame this whole debate as "M$ didn't show games, and when they do, it'll all be better" miss the point entirely. M$ clearly, *very* clearly, wants to do away with physical media so as to control how and at what cost you consume your content. I can still play my nes cartridge on my nes to this day-that's immensely valuable, and it is seen as such given the rising prices asked by re-sellers for older physical games on consoles past. The market agrees with this sentiment.
Steam has already ruined the PC market with "cheap" rentals via steam, and yes I call them rentals because you don't own your stuff. It has ruined PC game ownership, as physical games are often "steam crippled" and are effectively useless. Now M$ wants to do the same. And if and when physical media is either removed or gimped to the point M$ would have it, the others will follow suit, and gaming will be the worse for it.
Please keep believing your content will be available 10-20 years from now to own or pass down. It won't. Please keep believing the prices will stay cheap once the industries of digital content monopolize the market, this too, won't happen. We see this with the internet market as very few companies own all the infrastructure and keep innovation down and prices up.
The folks who support this crap? Take us one step closer to anti consumer tactics as far as games are concerned. DLC was the first step, which of course, was introduced through, guess who? Microsoft. If you hate having ownership and rights, please by all means keep playing F2P garbage and weirdo mmos. If you enjoy bland and banal "kill the brown people" shooters, then please do keep supporting them.
If you like engaging single player and multiplayer experiences and you want to conintue to OWN them, vote with your dollars. Only support physical media that isn't steam crippled or similarly DRM crippled. Do not buy digital content, and only support DRM free physical media. (DLC expansions used to be sold as physical game expansions for reasonable prices by the way).
I suspect as most people tend to vote against there own interests, this will not happen. Just don't be surprised when it all goes to shit.
