If I was a casual gamer in the market for a new console this year and kept up on gaming news, I would definitely be holding off for the XoX. Sony's sales dropped when they announced the Pro because people waited for that. Now with the X, people are also waiting. Lucky for me I will have them both and have the luxury of choosing which games perform best on what platform if I decide to stick with the console over PC. Luckily, Pro and X are getting good enough that they are viable over PC, for certain titles.

@7tizz: Go cry somewhere else. PlayStation is for gamers, not you.

@netiger: Are you talking about Xbox? It's not clear. If so, you forgot to also add the Windows Store.

@blood-souls: There's no question Sony has the best games. The problem is there are not enough to keep it exciting day after day. Once you finish a new release it could be several months before another one. Without resurrecting older, bigger AAA exclusives like Killzone, Socom and Resistance and perhaps some of the smaller kiddie titles, you can't create an even flow of releases through the year to keep momentum flowing.

@preacher001: I despised VHS (230 line of resolution), I was never completely satisfied with Laserdics or DVD's as I found myself constantly tweaking things (480 lines of resolution), I really started enjoying D-VHS and Bluray with 1080p/1080i. I am completely content with UHD 4k (2160p) on OLED technology. Console gaming has always been several steps behind the most current display technologies, but not anymore.

I genuinely feel I have reached my limit of what I need to be satisfied vs what is out there to blow hard earned money on. I have no interest in 8k even though I know it is coming but in all reality, I will have aged too much to give a damn anymore. I've always had large displays and projectors and found myself waiting for the tech I want to catch up to me. I'm good now. Even if XoX checkerboards 1800p to 4K it's still damn good and allows for an excellent gaming experience. Anything more than that it pure gravy. Now that 4k is becoming standard, 60fps is the next hurdle as that will be the next piece to get the most attention from consumers. Problem now is, HDR10 and Dolby Vision. These are tough as they destroy the bandwidth of HDMI 2.0b and introduce lag. Got to drop the frames to keep the lag low so you can enjoy HDR. Complications...

8k with Dolby Vision and full HD Audio will require HDMI bandwidth's around 45GB compared to the maxed out 18GB of today's fastest cable. Data and bandwidth will kill us all.

@darthrevenx: You're delusional if you think game devs make bad games because they focus their attention on the graphics. The game is in writing and development long before the coding starts. There is zero reason why games can't be both great in story and excellent in graphics, which there are MANY and it's ironic you chose the small world of xbox and Halo as a poor example. To say otherwise is only an excuse. If anything, Multiplayer hurts games as that genuinely takes away from real development resources.

@pspearman: 60fps will be common in one more generation. Or at least, once we've all moved on past 4K. Diminishing returns on display resolution and screen size leave the inevitable hardware advancements nowhere else to go but higher frames. With the new Vega cards hitting the streets in a few weeks reaching just over 13Tflops at around $699, the next gen consoles will certainly have the power to hit those 60fps targets. Current AMD GPU's will be last gen, cheaper and more suitable to find a second home in consoles 5 years from now.

More criticism came from the fact that Microsoft lied about the kinect, insisting the console wouldn't work without it. They said they were "one in the same". Then boom, no more kinect... like nothing ever happened and they got away with conning everyone on the fence about the launch console out of an extra $100.

But with a better console as restitution, I'm willing to look past the past.
