What's the budget? I find that 22" monitors are the best value right now. A lot of people like Hanns G monitors, they're pretty cheap for what you get. Other decent brands, Gateway, Dell, BenQ, Samsung... Just look for something with 8ms or better response (you should be able to find 5 these days).

It's pretty hard to find Surround Sound at that price, a good entry level would be closer to $300, like the Logitech Z-5500 set. Their lower line would be in your price range, The logitech z-5300e set which you could find four about $100. Hopefully someone else has some better suggestions. Maybe at that price though you could consider high end headphones? Tritton Ax360 headphones are quite versatile.

With newer plasmas burn-in isn't a huge concern. There will however be a small amount of image retention - don't be alarmed when you see it, it will go away. And don't listen to that bestbuy catch phrase above. Plasma displays are a little more sensitive to reflection than LCD, but have great response times, great black levels, and great color. I'm not trying to say One is better than the other, but at 50" flat panel LCDs aren't exactly affordable.

I'm a little disappointed, but your are right, as long as it doesn't dip too obviously and too often... it's not a deal breaker. The worst part of all these is hearing the pc gamers snicker, point, and laugh :)

Second Question, Can I borrow $500? :) I suppose you're right, my amp is almost 8 years old at this point - It's just a little awkward finding Onkyo in Canada at a competive price, but I'll look around. thanks

So is a stand alone Blu-Ray disc player costs the same as a PS3? Haha thats weird.

Well like someone else said, not everyone wants to play video games.

TheUberKnight
It's not that weird, these people need to make money on their hardware, the ps3 is sold at a loss. All i can really thing of are high end AV users that want the best, not the most cost effective. and lack of IR would be a huge downer for many I'm sure like DJ_Lae suggests.

I'm trying to decide how I will hook everything up to my TV and my Amp. First things first. TV: 2 x HDMI 2 x component Amp: 2 x optical 2 x coax HDMI Switch: 3-1 hdmi device - video -audio CableBox - DVI/HDMI - Optical orCoax Xbox 360 - Component - Optical Wii - Component - (not digital) Ps3 - HDMI - Hdmi or Optical HT PC - DVI/HDMI - Optical Current Problems - I'm one optical connection short - Fairly Complicated for my Girlfriend (even with a logitech harmony remtoe, its just... intimidating i suppose ;)) - My amp doesn't support WMA audio natively All I can come up with so far, from cheapest to most expensive: - buy a toslink switch (uggh.. one more remote) - buy an hdmi switch with toslink support (example - buy a new mid-line amp with more optical ports - buy a nice amp with hdmi switching and lots of digital ports, like the Onkyo 605

if you can only afford one then something with multiplayer is better value for your money... co-op and a decent length campaign doesn't hurt either.
