Try this in the PC hardware section, it may be difficult to dig through all of the opinions and suggestions but that is a huge budget. are you sure you wouldn't rather spend 1500, and 1500 more in 2 years or so? Anyways... here are some minimums you should be looking at Processor - Definetly go with intel, they just had a price drop mid summer, GREAT Value. 3 to look at... E6750 - good E6850 - better Q6600 - better v2 (there are some decent debate as to whether to go Quad Core yet, but if Crysis is on your mind go with the core) Q6xxx - There are are few faster quad processors, kind of pricey though. Ram DDR2 Ram at 800mhz or faster MotherBoard Stick with Good brands like Asus, Intel or Gigabyte, If you want 2 graphics cards (? I wouldn't bother... there isn't enough value in it) you need to look for Crossfire support for ATI cards or SLI for Nvidia Cards. There are a variety of chipsets to pick from. Graphics Card Nvidia 8800 + or 9800 + series or ATI x2900xt Power Supply Don't cheap out on your power supply, if you don't get something beefy enough you can degrade performance. Stick with a good brand like OCZ, 1000 watts is a safe bet, and moduler Power Supplies are great for keeping your case tidy Case Ease of use, look, and cooling should help you decide on a case... there are WAY too many to choose from. Antec 900 seems popular... Hard Drive etc Definetly get a SATAII, Your only real decision here is whether to do RAID or not. I would ignore that all together and just get one or 2 large drives (one for OS and installs, one for storage) Also, i would go with a SATA DVD Writer just to keep cables in the case clean, they are almost the same price as IDE DVD drives. As far as assembly goes, it should be pretty straight forward, everything you need to know is in the Motherboard manual. There are great guides online as wel, i just don't have any links handy
virtually any 720p tv will accept a 1080i source... just buy one from a decent brand name like samsung, sharp, toshiba, sony, lg, etc... That sceptre is cheap, and tha'ts what you got - cheap parts that did a crappy job with the video conversion. I don't see why you would ever want to set your 360 to 1080i on a display that wasn't 1920x1080 though.
That seems like a pretty nice budget. Personally I'd go with an Onkyo amp, probably a 605. It's fairly future ready, he does video switching if need be, and it's getting great reviews... All for a fairly reasonable price. I think you can find them for about $500. Speakers... you can spend a fortune on; some decent brands: kef, b&w, polk audio
When someone says gateway they are typically referring to a router. Every home should have a home router if you ask me. - easily share your internet connection - one more layer of security (firewall + address translation) - wireless optional!
i had a similar choice to make and went with the ps3... I still think there will be a lot of worthwhile games to play on the platform. I just feel that it's more value per dollar.
you can't say Best and then bring budget into the equation :) High end Sharps are nice as well... But a pioneer elite (or better, kuro) series may be in that budget.
NO! I'm saying they could have hd-dvd players built in the same manufacturing plants because they are extremely similar, but not exactly similar :). It's just (possibly) promising news if; CH-DVD actually takes off in China AND the hardware is as similar as the article suggests.
