Although I agree with the review, I simply can't stop playing this game for some odd reason. Judging by the review I thought I'd get bored halfway through but that's not happening. Every time my squad mates do something stupid and get themselves killed, I am more inclined to shoot sectoids on the face with the scattergun..... What's wrong with me?
Oh man! The whole part about the false memories was amazing. I think I am pretty much done with any tower defense and Assassin's Creed game, but it'll be interesting to see if they roll with that idea somehow... And once again, a really great show.
Like I said I still cannot say anything about this specific game. But with respect to what you said about this game being a prequel, look at the weapons reload system in the Mass Effect series. The first game used a cool off system and the others used a reload system (which I thought was inferior to the original one, but all my friends loved it cause it apparently made the game more fast paced). The point is they created a huge impact on the entire game mechanics from that small change. Funny thing? It didn't make sense from the mass effect canon of the first game... But look around, how many fans do you see complaining? But I guess you might be more correct than me cause I have seen WB games complain about the fact that they were heavily scrutinized internally and externally, which might mean apart from dealing with gamers like me all their original ideas might have been scrapped by the man upstairs.
I'm sorry if I sound... er... specific. But Batman and the Arkham games are very close to my heart. It doesn't take much to get me uneasy if I feel the developers didn't do everything to achieve the potential of this IP. I hope as a fellow gamer you get that....
I understand what you are trying to say and I can't comment on this review because I am yet to play this game myself. But I don't agree with you on the innovation part. Just because it's a prequel doesn't mean the game can't be different in terms of mechanics or otherwise. And I have said this before on Gamespot and I will say it again... I think as gamers we should never discourage good innovation. By good I mean innovation that's new, different and yet easy to get a grip on. And this is coming from a guy who's gonna be 30 next year so I think I fall into the group who'd be happy with the same ole quick time event every single time. But I truly believe the companies can deliver great games if the gaming community raise its standard and want great games from the companies. Make no mistake, I like the sense of familiarity when I play a game by one of my favorite studios regardless of how different the games are, but that never comes from lack of innovation, but rather underlying philosophies of the studio (case in point, ICO and SOC by team ICO).
I think that's the problem here. If it was rock steady I would be unhappy with this review as well. But it was a different studio. As a gamer who deserves the best, you really believe WB studios couldn't bring something new to the table? Completely different people worked on this game. But then again, who do I think I am? I don't know everything. And I haven't even played the game yet. But as a fellow gamer I can only ask you this. NEVER want anything less than great for yourself from these studios. Because that's when you see true masterpieces.
Ugh! I hate the fact that I can't take part in this conversation... I won't be able to get this game before the weekend so I have no idea why people are so angry in here.... On a completely unrelated topic Carolyn's favorite Batman actor is Michael Keaton. HELL YEAH!!! I think he's the best one as well :)
