The gamecube could do shaders. In fact, Rogue Leader was already running quite a few shaders in 2001 (on top of models that went from 30000 to 130000 poly's).Â
The problem is that they are handled a bit different then the shaders that are used in nvidia/ati cards (and the xbox) which means that all the shader code has to be rewritten for the cube.
