Well, I've had this last week to do all the major gaming I won't have time to do next month with training and stuff for my new job. Here's a few updates to let the one guy who reads my blog know what's up.
I bought Madden 08 and tried it out on my Wii. Sadly, I suck at sports games in virtuality as well as IRL. My dudes can tackle real gewd when I don't direct them, but I get Rothlesberger sacked almost as often as he does for reals.
Pokemon Battle Revolution: I beat every gym once and got my pikachu. Unfortunately there are a couple gyms that are a serious pain in the butt, the select battles being the ones I hate most of all. These are the battles where they make you select 3 from a random draw. The fortune battles are also a pain because if the computer gets my trained pokemon, I can't beat em. I suppose that says something about my training skills. In wi-fi battles, you know I'm proud to have a 0-5 record. You have to be real good to not win a single frickin online battl evar.
I haven't pulled out any of my game cube games because I don't have the wireless controllers and the wii is too close to my 52 inch screen. BTW, very awesome screen.
I love Naruto. It's always fun to see how the writers get that stupid kid out of each situation. I hate that my folks have a dish and it will not dvr stuff unless it's actually tuned to it, so my dad keeps shutting off my shows when he's watching the news upstairs. Argh. The real annoyance is that the uncut boxed sets are out up to the FinalChunin exams, but I left off just after that. I wonder if I should give up and just go get the manga and screw the show.
I bought Sonic on the Virtual Shopping Channel. It's fun, but just like when I was a kid, I can't even beat the first zone's boss. It's sad.
For variety I pulled out Puzzle quest for the DS. Warior, lvl 42. I am at the eye of Sartek and I keep getting stopped by the elves. Let me say this... Headbutt, deathbringer, berzerk frenzy. I have been carving dudes up left and right, but the elves don't like the red mana. Sigh. I beat my wife at Puzzle quest twice last night at the circus, so she's trying to catch her level 30 character up to me in order to resolve my level advantage. Her knight does a wicked stun and divine right attack that just tears the heck outta you, but she doesn't use the red mana, so on my turn I can wail on her in like 3 moves.
I have lost all three of my Yu-Gi-Oh card games for DS. I have the spare Nightmare trubador I bought, but it's got a different layout for game play that is less intuitive than Spirit caller or WC2007 and I just feel like I'm playing in mud. My card collection IRL is pretty friggin huge but my wife refused to learn to play and the nieces are into pokemon too much.
As for Diamond and Pearl... Nada. Haven't been playing them, because I've been trying to finish Emerald for a latios and LG for an Entei. No one will share data with me for the friggin 5 I need so I may never finish. However all is not lost...
I got a copy of Digimon World: Dusk, and I am having a blast. Despite having 0 knowledge of the story, the monsters or their forms, I've managed to get further than all the stupid walkthroughs and have "befiended" (lol) 79 species of digimon. I've also become a silver rank tamer. It'd be nice if there was a wiki with the storyline and evolution progressions out there but I'm enjoying the game qite a bit. It's got a quirky interface. You must use the d-pad and buttons even though most everything is touch activated. The menues sometimes don't recognise the touch input, so it's easier that way, really.
I want the Bleach Wii game. If anyone has it, let me know what you think of it. Is it worth 50 bucks?
Peace...
Whew, I'm back. We moved from the burgh to the outskirts of Wichita, Ks and have finally gotten jobs that will allow us to pay bills and afford this lavish gamer lifestyle. I found a mewtwo and am 1 encounter away from finding one of the legendary dogs. I am not sure how to trigger that event, but I've been lvling up a chase team for just in case.
Mew, Celibi, Jirachi - Still need the data.
Latios, Suicune, and Entei - Still looking to trade. I have PBR so I may have some items worth the trade soon.
We're kinda busy today but I wanted to say that I'm back in business for all your breeding needs...
This was a watershed show for those of us who are into that White Wolf genre of modern fantasy. Also for Star trek fans since almost every single member of Starfleet has at one time done a voice for this program. You'll hear the entire Next Generation Bridge crew (except wil and Patrick) as well as Janeway and a few others.
The first season is a perfect blend of the alien trying to fit in with a lot of attention focused on the relationship between Dt. Elisa Maza and Goliath, the leader of this clan of Gargoyles.
The second season focuses on the quest to save and then get back from Avalon, the last rookery of Gargoyles, along with the resting place for King Arthur. Goliath meets his biological daughter in this one, and she's been raised by humans so there is a serious culture gap that is explored.
The third season marked a major change to the show in production quality as ABC had moved the production to a cheaper and much more American in quality. It was garish and many fans ignore the stories because the switch in color palate alone is a bit garish, but it was still worth it to see the reluctant superhero/alien/fish out of water/sword and sorcery stuff mixed in with a little high tech genius of gargoyle robots, souls trapped in cyberspace, furry transformations, cyborgs, and a sinister, yet very honorable bad guy and his family wearing gargoyle inspired battle suits.
Keith David is the voice actor who played Goliath, and once you tune in to his voice you'll be able to hear him almost as often as Peter Cullen's on TNT. He played Spawn in the HBO version (which, in my opinion was much better than the comics or live action film). He's also the guy that sent Riddick after the necros in the Chronicles of Riddick. He's the frickin Arbiter from Halo 2-3, and was in John Carpenter's most excellent remake of "The Thing." He's the guy I'd hope would take the part of my semi-evil alter ego Yami Krypto, if my life were an anime, or I had a split personality.
For the record, this is a partial list of the best voices ever recorded for animation or television.
?1. Peter Cullen (Prime/ Ironhide / Eeyore / TNT Voice)
?2. Keith David (Goliath)
3. Kevin Conroy (The only guy who can say he's batman and be right, he's played the character in more episodes than anyone alive has ever played the caped crusader, eat yer dang heart out Adam West).
3.5 Mark Hamill gets a shout out for being my favorite Joker, but the new version is cool too.
?4. James Earl Jones (Vader/Conan's first big squeeze in the Schwarzenegger series/ The writer guy from Field of Dreams)
5. The English Actor for Batou (GITTS: SAC)
6. The English actor who plays Kaiba and Brock, I continue to expect to see Kaiba shout I choose you whenever he draws from his deck. LOL.
7. Samuel L Jackson (The Boondocks, Afro-Samurai, Snakes on a Plane)
The actual Japanese voice actress for Pikachu gets honorable mention because she can do so much with only 1 word. She is truly awesome, but not on the same level as these guys.
So, that's my memories of my misspent first few years at college ('94 - '96) and the most complex plot I'd ever seen until I started watching Ghost in the Shell.
