I do alot of shopping on Ebay. And the last few mornings I got on the videogame auctions and noticed a suprising thing. About 1/3 to 1/2 of the PS3s were being sold as-is with disc reading problems. Now some of these are the new systems that came packaged with MGS4. Anyone who wants to check it out just go on Ebay and check the auctions for yourself. I was just suprised at how many PS3s were being sold broken. Yes, there are probably way more RROD 360s being sold but no one really discusses the problems with PS3s. fanboy999

Well, the MGS4 systems started selling in June. It is now August. So that means all of those systems are still under warranty. Which means if there is a DRE issue, it would be fixed for free under warranty and not sold on ebay "as is".

Now, did you fail deductive reasoning or did you expect all of us to fail at deductive reasoning?

I hope you meant component and not composite.

component = HDTV resolution capable

composite = SDTV only

The difference between HDMI and composite is the difference between HDTV and SDTV.

The improvement of HDMI over component is more of a gray area. It is very setup dependent. I don't suppose you can borrow a 360 with HDMI and try it out on your TV? That would be the easiest way to test the HDMI vs. component video performance on your setup.

The receiver only has one hdmi input[QUOTE="l0053"]

Assuming your receiver can process HDMI audio:

Cable box -- HDMI --> receiver -- HDMI --> TV

In this configuration, your receiver will process the audio from the cable box and send the video to the TV.

dwarfwasonfire

My diagram only utilizes 1 HDMI input. The connection from receiver to TV utilizes the HDMI OUTPUT.

I think it would be easier if you listed the exact make and model of your receiver and TV. It would then be a trivial matter for us to recommend the optimal settings.

Can you list the make and model of all the components you are trying to hookup? Also, list how they are connected to each other.

Who said anything about looking for problems? Sometimes you just notice them, nothing more than that. In the case of my Panasonic TH50PZ800u I was doing research on the TV, reading various reviews, checking out AVS Forums and there I noticed a thread about a certain problem on plasmas. The model in the discussion was not mine, but it was mentioned that the same issue applied to all plasmas, so I took that into consideration and eventually purchased the set, and then a couple days later I noticed it.

I will stress that the issue is most noticeable in videogames and certain movies.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I tried moving over to an LCD and I found the motion of it almost insulting, so I went back to the plasma and I love it. Mine is one of (about) two sets that are THX certified, so I don't have to calibrate the sucker, I just choose "THX" among Vivid, Standard and Dynamic settings and I'm off. It is THE best thing I have ever spent money on, but since I did spend over $3000 the problems you find only get amplified. I could spend $800 on a TV and not care about an issue, but spending as much as I did and finding something? Well that stings a little. But I'm over it.

Large_Soda

Looks like my last post got eaten. Separate from my arguments with Boxcutters and xXXGODFATHAXXx on this topic, I do recognize the fact that high end plasmas have the best picture quality of *any* HDTV. I am simply not aware of any visual issues besides the ones already discussed. Or at the very least, issues that apply to high end plasmas. I am actually thinking of getting a TV for my bedroom. Since I can't exactly fit a DLP in there, I was looking at getting a plasma. Can you elaborate on this issue? Send me a PM if you want to discuss this in private.

Cormack is pissed at the royalties he has to pay for a 3rd disc since this is cutting into his profit. It has nothing to do with blooo ray or dvd. MS policy is to charge higher royalties for more discs and Cormack is angling for less. It has nothing to do with the hardware and everything to do with MS's policies.

mephisto_11

I had the misconception that console royalties were based on per game sold and not on number of disks per game.

If MS is apparently charging a significant amount for 3 disks, how much did they charge Lost Oddysey with its 4 disks?

Most consumers are stupid. They only look at the cost of the console instead of total cost of ownership.

Because remakes are the only games from SE that is any good. Their recent games have been very underwhelming.

Oy the guy goin on sayin IR is this an that, shut it, all of what boxcutters has said is true, i have owned a pv700 panny, a px60u and they are the older models and they didnt have no IR, and boxcutters is right, IR is non existant unless yu are stupid enough tu leave yur tv on for a month, crt tvs had IR and they were existant after a week of watchin, if your plasma shows IR then yur set might be defective because IT IS NOT EXISTANT!!! I should know i own a Pioneer PDP 507XD(good tvs btw) and i have owned that since they came out in 06 and not one bit of IR. so boxcutters is not lying, and i should know i am a professional calibrator and tv advice salemans,(FAB JOB< GET A LOAD OF TVS FOR VIRTUALLY FREE!!) so IR IS NOT EXISTANT!!!!

xXXGODFATHAXXx

Thank you, finally somone who speaks the truth and says it in the right way, not over some stupid fake info like l0053

xXXGODFATHAXXx

You seem to be getting a bit hot under that collar, mate. Why don't you take a step back and try to relax?

Based on your previous postings over the last couple of months here:

I bought a new sammy plasma and i want to give it a good picture but i hate calibrating pictures and samsung is confusing especially with all the detailed settings, can anyone help and tell me what to do? the best advice i got was to put it on standard and put the contrast down to about 65 or so.The model is a PS42A55 or something like that.xXXGODFATHAXXx

here:

My current Toshiba 47 Has a contrast Ratio if 15000:1, is this good or bad for an LCD?xXXGODFATHAXXx

and here:

does plasma produce a good picture, i kno screen burn ent much of an issue on new ones so i dont care. are the colours and sharpness good. im looking mostly to buy a panasonic.xXXGODFATHAXXx

You demonstrated a surprising lack of HDTV knowledge. So your claims of being a TV salesman and calibrator is a bit...suspect. But then, this is the internet, where we could all claim to be people we are not.

But there is a happy ending! I found a Boxcutters posting that acknowledges that IR is not a figment of our imagination!

I've praising the love for panasonic plasmas for the last month, panasonic do not get screen burn because of the auto pixel shifting it does, plus any slight image burn will fade away in less then a min.

I think it's the best HDTV I've ever owned. My next HDTV will be a panasonic plasma

I love that's there no lag, easy on the eyes, and the Vibrant Colors.

Much more detailed picture then the LCDs I've looked at in the stores. Only a newer LCD that cost a lot can match a panasonic.

Plus Plasmas are cheaper the LCDS! Boxcutters

WOW!

So now, there is no longer any conflict becase we are all in agreement! :)

Let's meet up at the local pub for a pint and a group hug!

Cheers!
