DLP TVs suck.... a lot.

you definitely didn't make a mistake.

Video lag FTL

While the difference between 720p and 1080p is a debatable, one can't argue the difference between DLP and LCD with LCD taking the win. I find text to be much sharper on a LCD and also LCDs have a wider viewing angle. Oh, and one can't forget the lag that comes with DLP.radioacid

Well, I have a current gen DLP (HL61A750) and I have never experienced any sort of video lag. If you are experiencing any video lag with DLP, the TV is probably not set up correctly. And really, the argument that LCD is strictly better than DLP in terms of picture quality is laughable.

I have to agree with rctyke here.

Let's see:

My 61" Samsung LED DLP (HL61A750) on Amazon = $1759

Pioneer 60" KURO PDP-6020FD on Amazon = $4999

I seriously doubt the 60" KURO can be purchased for anywhere near what I purchased my DLP at. I'm also willing to bet money that my profesionnaly calibrated LED DLP will match or beat *ANY* LCD in terms of picture quality.

Will the KURO have better picture quality than my DLP? Yes. But it is not $3000 better. Not even close.

firebreathing

that last satement is pretty much subjective, as someone with that much money would probably think the difference is worth it. plus you have to add in the cost of having your set calibrated by a pro, the extra space you'll need, tv shelf that can take more weight and yea. I wouldn't ever go with a dlp, espeically when i could get a 50" plasma for a good price and be completely happy.

Just a minor fact - My 61" DLP weighs in at 70lbs. It is much lighter than Plasmas of a similar size (PDP-6020FD - 120lbs). DLP's are bulky, not heavy. There is no need to account for "extra weight".

We can go round and round on this topic. But at the end of the day, both of us made an informed choice on the matter. Both of us are happy with the results. That's the ony thing that matters.

[QUOTE="rctyke"]That is why you should consider getting a DLP HDTV such as one from Samsung, those have great picture quality and great prices for their size and features. Sure you have to make room for it (they are not skinny as the Plasmas or LCDs) but be creative of your set up, say put it where there is empty space or get a stand for it's size. What is better, get a Front Projector for a larger screen size (even up to '100 inches) you just need to know how to set it up properly and you can have a larger, clearer, and even better picture than the LCD's or plasmas.rctyke

or he could just get a plasma and have superior color, while not having a bulky tv. PLasmas are just as expensive as lcd tvs and they last just as long. I watch blu-ray (1080p native) on my 720p tv and i dont notice anything wrong.

What plasma are you refering to? If you are refering something like a Pioneer or a high end Panasonic, those are more expensive at the screen sizes of the DLPs. If Plasmas are at a similar price at a similar size, I would rather pick that over a DLP. Also front projectors can project a much larger picture than the sizes of the DLP tvs or plasmas, and know some of the models outperform them, so the real issue people face is brightness, since it is harder to see it during bright conditions than it is to see a plasma or a DLP, but keep the room light controlled, and you should do fine. The reason I do not have one is that I can't afford one right now that is a 1080p, so it is money saving for me. Also projectors with their ability to project a larger image show the benefits of 1080p much easily.

I got the newest high end plasma for under $1000. You don't know how to shop.

DLPs don't give as good picture as the new plasmas, or even LCDS.

What model, or brand is it? Also what size is it? I doubt you could find a Plasma or an LCD that can outperform a DLP at that price, let alone screen size.

I have to agree with rctyke here.

Well, let's start with a HDMI receiver to give you an idea of what you can go with.

If you had, for example, the Onkyo SR605/606, you could set it up like this:

Wii -- component/stereo --> receiver

360 -- HDMI --> receiver

PS3 -- HDMI --> receiver

Your receiver will be connected to your TV with 1 HDMI cable:

receiver -- HDMI --> TV

Instead of switching inputs on your TV, you will just change the input on your receiver. The receiver will process the audio and pass the video to the TV. Please note the example above assumes a HDMI receiver, if you get a non-HDMI receiver, then the setup will be different.

Does that make sense? If not, post a reply or send me a PM.

HDMI to DVI cable is what you need. A reasonable 2 meter HDMI-DVI cable should be around 3 euros. They should all work about the same.

No worries about the picture. HDMI is just DVI with audio. You do need a separate connection for audio though.

There is some variation on the quality of SD video on a HDTV. A lot depends on the model of the HDTV.

If you have already purchased your TV, can't you hook up the PS2 and check it out yourself?

In addition, if you don't like the 4:3 look, you can always have your HDTV upconvert the image to 16:9.

"We consider this significant as the "no character branding" category consists of games that publishers hope to turn into brands, such as Zack & Wiki, No More Heroes, Boom Blox, etc. For the PS3/Xbox 360, this category excels as publishers try to ensure a higher quality standard and stronger marketing support in hopes of turning a new intellectual property into a brand."

Personally, i think it's the lack of marketing resulting to poor sales of the new IPs on the Wii. What do you think?mjarantilla

Of course the PS3 and 360 excel in that category. Developers for those consoles do nothing but pander to the action-addicted pop culture audience. That's why their video game heroes have more in common with Steven Seagal than Laurence Olivier.

Please give some examples of video games where the hero is like Laurence Olivier.

Did you try restting the PS3? You have to do a reset if you switch to a different video connection on a different TV.

With the PS3 on standby (red light on). Hold down the power button until you hear two beeps.

Let me put it this way. You not connecting the PS3 and Z-5500 with optical is the equivalent of watching your color TV in only black and white.
