Prince's halftime imagery questioned

Talk about trying to create controversy...

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070206/ap_en_mu/prince_super_bowl;_ylt=Ah27UHwix5EMl1bf.PrchrvMWM0F;_ylu=X3oDMTA3YXYwNDRrBHNlYwM3NjI-

Looking at the picture associated with this article, I think saying it looks "phallic" is a bit of a stretch.  And if it does, I don't think Prince did it intentionally.  Especially when you consider that after Prince became a Jehovah's Witness a few years back, he has scaled back the sexual part of his image tremendously.

"Kids' Choice Awards" host announced

This year's host is none other than Justin Timberlake.  Hopefully, he'll do a better job than Jack Black did last year.

The nominees are in the link above.  It was interesting to note that for favorite television show, there was only *ONE* Nickelodeon series nominated ("Drake & Josh").

No announcements yet as to who will be performing at this year's awards.

"Robotech: Shadow Chronicles" coming to DVD

The Robotech OVA, "Robotech: Shadow Chronicles," is finally coming to DVD on Tuesday (February 6).

Here's the page at Amazon:

Must... have... this... DVD...

CN promotional stunt goes awry...

9 suspicious packages planted in Boston:

It turns out the packages, planted in nine other cities in addition to Boston, were part of a promotional stunt for "Aqua Teen Hunger Force."

*shakes head*

OK, this is a stupid enough idea as it is... and it's even stupider in this post-9/11 world...

Ted Turner, what were you thinking?

Nick Jr.: OK, what's going on here?

Sara was watching Nick Jr. as usual.  The opening credits for Dora the Explorer ran as normal, and as soon as they ended, a bump for a commercial break played.  They have been playing commercials ever since (the commercials have been running for about 3 minutes now).  Sara is becoming extremely frustrated because of it.

If this is a case of someone pushing the wrong button, I hope this person gets their arse fired.

"Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?"

Fox announces an upcoming game show:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070121/ap_on_fe_st/tv_fifth_graders

The concept of this game show is that adults are quizzed on questions from elementary school textbooks; actual elementary students will be on hand as "experts" for the adults to consult.

*rolls eyes*

Geez, Fox is certainly getting desperate, aren't they?  How much longer until the joke in "Weird Al" Yankovic's "Couch Potato" come trues ("And next week on Fox watch lions eat Christians")?

Ed, Edd 'n Eddy

This is a show I've watched on and off with the kids over the past couple of years.  While it's not the greatest of shows, it wasn't too terrible... at least, until the newer episodes started airing.

I saw an episode the other day (a newer one) that just annoyed me... particularly its portrayal of Nazz.  In the earlier episodes, Nazz was the fun, perky, energetic blond girl (who could be slightly ditzy at times, but she seemed to have some kind of a brain in her head).  In the newer eps, they are now portraying Nazz as a complete airhead (in the one I saw about the spelling bee, she was emceeing the bee, and couldn't pronounce most of the words).

Another thing that's gotten out of hand is inconsistencies.  While there were some inconsistencies before, they've gotten really bad with the newer episodes.  For example, exactly how old are these kids?  In the Valentine's special, we see them attending Peach Creek High School (although I thought that that was a stretch, since most of the characters don't seem like they're high school age yet), and Sarah and Jimmy (the two youngest) are portrayed as not being at the same school as the others.  In the newer eps, the kids are now at Peach Creek Junior High, and Sarah and Jimmy are shown as being in the same school as the others.  I'd have an easier time believing Sarah and Jimmy were with them if it was a middle school (with Sarah and Jimmy as 6th graders, the others in 8th grade).  As it is, I get the impression that Sarah and Jimmy are either 4th or 5th grade, the others are about 8th grade (although the Kanker sisters may be a little older, but are held back and are thus in the same grade as the other kids).

One thought I've had about this show lately... is this supposed to be set in modern time?  You never see the kids with computers (not even Double Dee, who's supposed to be the smart kid) or with cell phones or even CDs and CD players.  In one episode you see Eddy listening to a record on a turntable.  Can anyone think of anything in this show that would date it to be modern day?  I had a thought that maybe the show is actually set in the past (maybe the late 1970s or the early 1980s).  Maybe I'm off-base on that, but it was a thought I had.

"Blue's Room" is coming... run and hide!

I saw a promo on Nick Jr. the other day, advertising that new episodes of "Blue's Room" will begin airing on Fridays at 10 a.m. (starting January 26).  The shots of the show I saw in the promo didn't impress me.  But the shocking this is... Joe will still be around!  I was sure that when they started "Blue's Room," that Donovan Patton would've been given his walking papers.  But he's going stick around for this travesty...

Sara's become quite a fan of "Blue's Clues" recently, so I imagine she'll want to see "Blue's Room" (and will throw a fit if I change the channel).  And, unfortunately, I have a feeling she's going to like "Blue's Room"...

My Gym Partner's A Monkey

This is one of the newer shows on Cartoon Network, and let's just say that it's not very good.  The whole premise is hard to swallow (bascially, a human kid (whose last name is Lyon) is accidentally sent to an animal school), and his adventures trying to fit in at the school.

I'm sorry, but it's just hard for me to willingly suspend my disbelief for this premise.  This kind of administrative error is easily corrected, and his parents should have been able to appeal the decision.  He shouldn't be at the animal school as long as it's portrayed in the series.

Also, the plots and writing are subpar, at best.

Right now, the kids are watching the "movie": "My Gym Partner's A Monkey: The Big Field Trip."  All I can say is: it's BLOODY AWFUL.

I hope this show will get canned sooner rather than later...

EDIT: Oh, no!  They're show "The Big Field Trip" movie AGAIN!  It was just on three hours ago!  NOOOOOOOO!

Now no release date for Voltron Vol. 3 DVD set at Amazon :(

Around the time Volume 2 was due to be released, there was already an entry for Volume 3 at Amazon, with a release date of late February 2007.  Out of curiosity this morning, I went to see what new information there was for the set.  Well, I discovered that there is no longer a release date... there is now a message saying that a release date is "pending."

First, Volume 2 ended up getting pushed back a month, and now there's no release date for Volume 3.  This doesn't seem like a good sign.  :(  And I hope this doesn't mean that the Golion and Dairugger XV sets ended up getting scrapped, because I've really been looking forward to those...
