Release dates for the next two "Avatar" DVDs

The first volume of Book 2 is supposed to be released later this month (on January 23).

(If you visit the Amazon page link up above, you can even see a picture of the cover.  This cover looks awesome!)

And while at Amazon tonight,  I discovered that Amazon already has the second volume of Book 2 available for pre-order.  :)  The release date for that one is currently April 10.

(The Amazon link above has a pictue of the cover for this one too.  It's an OK cover, although not as impressive as volume 1 of Book 2.  At least this one has a pictue of Toph, the greatest earth bender in the world!  :))

"Avatar" coming to the big screen

TV.com (this site, remember?  :)), is reporting that a live-action adaptation of "Avatar" is in development:

Well, it could be interesting, I guess...

Animator Iwao Takamoto passes away

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070109/ap_en_tv/obit_takamoto

Wow, a lot of these big name folks are passing away.  :(

Not only did he help design some of Disney's big films, he also created Scooby-Doo and directed the animated Charlotte's Web film.

Is CN trying to buy ratings for "Reanimated"?

OK, I ranted about this film being overhyped on CN a few weeks back.  I believe it's aired at least two additional times since its original airing.

Anyway,  they're now airing a promo for yet another re-airing of this film, except there's now a contest connected to it.  During the movie, they're going to flash up a phone number, and 200 kids will have the chance to win $500.

I'm sorry, but this reeks of trying to buy ratings (I suspect the other airings haven't gotten the ratings that CN was hoping for).  And I'd be willing to wager that the phone number won't appear until somewhere near the end of the movie, in the hopes of forcing kids to actually watch it.  I mean, if this was a "legitimate" contest, why didn't they do it when the film first aired on CN?

If CN is really trying to use this contest to buy ratings for this film, then I am truly disgusted.

Happy New Year!

Just a quick little post to wish everyone a Happy New Year!  :)

May you have health, happiness, and love in 2007!  :)

Joe Barbera passes away :(

Joe Barbera, half of the Hanna-Barbera team, has passed away of natural causes at the age of 95.  He was, of course, behind a number of beloved  animated programs, including Tom & Jerry, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Yogi Bear, Scooby-Doo, among others.

Voltron Season 2 box set... have not found it in the Seattle area yet

Dan has been looking around the area, trying to find the Voltron Season 2 box set, but to no avail so far.  We know we can order it from Amazon, but we'd prefer to find it in a physical store, if at all possible.  The Fred Meyer where we bought Volume 1 doesn't have Volume 2.  :(

At this point, Dan is planning to wait until after Christmas before resuming his search for this set.  :P

"Rocky and Bullwinkle" writer dies at 81

Accoring to Yahoo! News, Chris Hayward, an Emmy-award winning writer who helped develop the character of Canadian Mountie Dudley Do-Right, passed away on November 20 due to cancer:

A Christmas special to avoid...

I was unfortunate enough to catch the last half an hour of "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer."  Ugh.  Two words:  BLOODY AWFUL.

And a word of advice... if you come across it while channel flipping, run, don't walk, away from it immediately!
