@Thanatos2k: I've taken plenty of surveys; some are long, some are short. Like I said, there could have been other reasons. They can't ask every question in the world on every survey.
Why is that critical? Why can't they just ask the information they want to know, and then tell you that information? They wanted to know how people would identify themselves, and they found out. First you said it was "bad data", now you're saying it doesn't have any worth, all because it doesn't find out what you wanted to know, I guess?
@Thanatos2k: They could have asked those sorts of questions. My guess would be that they didn't want the survey to be too long, but there could be other reasons. That doesn't apply to them wanting to know how many people consider themselves gamers. Considering how subjective the term "gamer" is, it is pointless to try to find out who actually is a "gamer", as opposed to identifying as one.
And while "we" all know why, I'm not sure "I" know. Is it because you think female gamers really are a minority? Because that is what their data suggests too, so I'm not sure where you're going with this.
@Thanatos2k: Right, they wanted to find out how many people consider themselves gamers, so they asked people if they consider themselves gamers. They wanted to learn what people would say, and that's what they found out.
