@nintendians: In his case, emulator means they think he cheated, he's never come close to his high scores in a public setting, so everyone has to take his word that his records are legit. Video evidence appears to corroborate the emulator charges, so not only is he not playing the "original" game as it was when it came out, his continued denials of said use have a lot of folks questioning his truthfulness about setting the records.
Personally, I think his records should be reinstated unless there is concrete proof, but the guy is also a raging asshole, so I don't have much sympathy that he might be getting a raw deal here.
Why? Why is the entire point, they want players talking about it, wondering about it, investing their interest in the outcome. Not a fan of the game, but I recognize a brilliant move to introduce content when I see it. Most games either throw new content and areas at you without any buildup or the hype happens outside the game itself, kudos to the developers for taking a more interactive approach.
