@Seymour47: lol, what?! Maybe you're thinking of the first FF14 iteration? FF11 is still online with an active player base 20 years after its debut, it received good to great rankings across all platforms from both players and critics, in fact, it is still popular enough that it has never been free to play.
Eh, can't speak to other games, but Final Fantasy 11 did this kind of thing with every major release, also followed by the gnashing of teeth from the community. Many pieces of gear that took weeks or months to obtain would lose value overnight. SE eventually found a happy medium where the gear would still be prestigious, BUT, you were going to have to put in more hours of grinding to get it up to the new max levels. This kind of thing isn't new, they need a hook to keep folks around.
@Thanatos2k: What did the drooling masses eat up? That it made money? Because it did make money, that's a fact, not anyone's opinion. Now they are amending that to say it made money, but they are spending that money to fix it. Or are you referring to the high praise that no one has given it?
