@mcquack306 So your wife is representative of the entire female gaming community? Fascinating.
I don't disagree that the priority needs to be on quality, but when 90% of game protagonists are male the tastes of one gamer who happens to be female doesn't negate the broader problem. In fact this argument does nothing more than cater to the status quo.
@hollowtip 'Small' being defined as 47% in the US? Fascinating, do continue. According to The Entertainment Software Association 47% of gamers are female.
@QueerGamersXist @SmartSuzi @lordbest I wouldn't necessarily go that far, at least not universally. I've seen interviews where developers have admitted they don't aim for more diversity because they are terrified of doing it wrong and making the situation worse. It doesn't excuse the result butis more complex than universal contempt for trans people.
@SmartSuzi @lordbest The same applies to people crying about this article. Don't want a game with a transsexual character, don't buy it. Don't whine about it on the internet.
@SmartSuzi @VeredusMaximus Ah, the old 'I don't see a problem so there isn't one' routine. Splendid. I love how many people attempt to refute the articles points about privilege illustrate said privilege so perfectly. Evidently not the most self-aware bunch of people posting here.
@SmartSuzi What one person considers fun isn't necessarily what someone else will consider fun. This boils down to privilege. You can have fun playing games when those games cater to your tastes. If they don't cater to your tastes, you won't have fun or as much fun. Most games cater to the tastes of white straight males, like me. I'm spoilt for choice, other people are not. This makes me cranky.
