The PS3 and Xbox 360 are both TERRIBLE dvd players. They fail almost any dvd player performance test you can use. Even worse, they are outperformed by essentially every current standalone player on the market. This is pretty pathetic if you consider the hardware power both systems have.BroweChisox

Got any proof to back that up??

Even Panasonic has already stated the format war is pretty much over in favor of Blu-Ray.

With 80% of studio support for Blu-Ray, HD-DVD never really had a chance.

I wonder what hd28guy_basic and Yellow_Rose are thinking now

OMG!  Panasonic !  Well damn, it must be true,  it's not like Panasonic is biased because they make BD players or anything...Oh wait...they do make BD players...

[QUOTE="PaintballinDude"]But blu rays sell 3:1Dire_Weasel

No it doesn't

Sorry, but one sad fanboy in denial doesn't change the facts. Blu-ray has already won. Not even Microsoft will back that dead horse.

Welcome to a couple hours ago,  i already proved BD is not outselling HD-DVD 3:1.

BD nearly outsold HD-DVD 3:1 in January alone (more like 2.5:1),  but it's not currently outselling it 3:1

Which one is going to win the HD war?

Is Blu-Ray better? Why?

HD-DVD's can go online tho.....

Let the discussion begin....

Ngon

online wtf?

yep you can share clips of movies and more with your friends (lol only if you have that same dvd tho, that would be copyrighting)

and there is a hard drive on the player also

why the heck would you want to share a clip of the movie when you have the movie and the other person has the movie too!? THIS IS SO STUPID, THATS WHY THE FAIL, BEIGN STUPID!!!!

Ehh,  i never heard about sharing movie clips...This is what i thought they meant by being online.....

http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/Exclusive_HD_Content/HDi/Universal/Microsoft/Online_Interactivity_to_Spearhead_Universals_2007_HD_DVD_Assault/523

Universal Studios Home Entertainment is betting that interactivity will boost HD DVD in its next-gen battle against Blu-ray, with the studio planning to release three major titles in 2007 with web-connected features.

While no HD DVD-supporting studios have yet taken advantage of the Ethernet capabilities found on all Toshiba first- and second-gen HD DVD players, that is due to change by year's end, when Universal will unveil three, as-yet-announced releases to take advantage of the format's web connectivity.

The news came courtesy of Kevin Collins, Microsoft's director of HD DVD evangelism, who outlined the studio's plans to Video Business. Microsoft, Toshiba and Universal have been the primary backers of the HD DVD format since it's launch last year.

"We are still scratching the surface of what we are capable of doing, but Universal is leading the format in terms of exploring all the different aspects that are out there now," said Collins. "By the holidays, there will be a lot more features."

To date, Blu-ray titles have featured relatively little interactivity, as its BD-Java technology is still being tweaked for implementation on future titles. Of course that hasn't stopped Blu-ray from taking the sales lead over HD DVD over the last two months, following the introduction of the Blu-ray enabled PS3 and a steady stream of new disc releases.

Hoping to reverse the trend, Universal will continue to promote existing HDi-based interactivity in the form of its "U-Control" feature on two key upcoming HD DVD titles, 'Children of Men,' due March 20, and 'Smokin' Aces,' which streets April 17. The studio promises features even more advanced than those seen on earlier "U-Control" titles such as last September's 'The Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift.'

On 'Children of Men,' viewers get a chance to see the film's featured video billboard advertisements in their entirety, with the HD DVD allowing users to click on each of the approximately ten billboards and watch the complete ads.

'Smokin' Aces,' meanwhile, will integrate Google Earth to identify specific locations of assassins during the film.

HD-DVD will gain ground once chinese manufactured players are released plus

Blu-ray is owned in europe

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18013123/

PaintballinDude

So far, HD-DVD player sales have been ahead of Blu-Ray in Europe, although the launch of Sony's PlayStation 3 games console, which comes with an inbuilt Blu-Ray Disc player, may change this.

Old and the sales in Europe are hardly exciting (HD-DVD reportedly had monthly sales of roughly 8.5K in the UK in January).

Matrix Trilogy comes to HD DVD next month. That should sell fairly well.

Hypothetical question. Since the Wii outsells PS3 3:1, does that mean the Wii is better?

gromit007

If it had better technology behind it...yes. Because it doesn't and has fewer A and AA games, no it doesn't.

And from January - April there has been no numbers bragging about how BD is still outselling 3:1? (was actually 2.5:1)

Congratulations, you just proved that BD went from outselling HD-DVD 2.5:1 in January, to 2:1 in February...Again..Painballin said "is outselling 3:1" he didn't say "BD outsold HD-DVD 2.5:1 in January, and 2:1 in February.

Going from 2.5:1 in January to 2:1 in February is not good for BD, they wan't to see the ratio get bigger and bigger every month, not smaller and smaller.

Or they want the ratio just too stay on top. A lot of things in the business world fluctuate.

Point is, not Runningflame, nor Paintballin have proved that BD is "outselling" HD-DVD 3:1"

And it is still winning. Now head for the hills kid.

That's the best you have?

You sound like someone who just lost an argument...oh wait you did....

[QUOTE="jdogthebomb09"]Does it play DVD's in 480p or "i"?Rakuho

It can play them in 480p,  the 360 upscales to 1080p tho

Yeah, but upsacling to a reolution that isn't normal to the 480 on the DVD, makes the picture kind of stange and irregular, trust me, I saw this. So it's better to view it in 480p even if that sound's like downgrading, same thing with games (i.e. plaing a 720p in 1080 looks worse that playning it in 720).

And, yes it plays DVDs perfectly and in amazing quality.

So a regular DVD player plays DVD's better then an upscalling DVD player like the Panasonic S97S?  And why do BD players and HD-DVD players even bother with chips for upscaling regular DVD's?

since when does the 360 upscale dvd's to 1080. mine only plays them at 480p still. maybe i missed an update or something.

It's always been able to via VGA....And the Elite 360 will upscale up to 1080p via HDMI
