HD-DVD will gain ground once chinese manufactured players are released plus

Blu-ray is owned in europe

Runningflame570

So far, HD-DVD player sales have been ahead of Blu-Ray in Europe, although the launch of Sony's PlayStation 3 games console, which comes with an inbuilt Blu-Ray Disc player, may change this.

Old and the sales in Europe are hardly exciting (HD-DVD reportedly had monthly sales of roughly 8.5K in the UK in January).

Matrix Trilogy comes to HD DVD next month. That should sell fairly well.

Hypothetical question. Since the Wii outsells PS3 3:1, does that mean the Wii is better?

gromit007

If it had better technology behind it...yes. Because it doesn't and has fewer A and AA games, no it doesn't.

And from January - April there has been no numbers bragging about how BD is still outselling 3:1? (was actually 2.5:1)

Congratulations,  you just proved that BD went from outselling HD-DVD 2.5:1 in January,  to 2:1 in February...Again..Painballin said "is outselling 3:1" he didn't say "BD outsold HD-DVD 2.5:1 in January, and 2:1 in February.

Going from 2.5:1 in January to 2:1 in February is not good for BD,  they wan't to see the ratio get bigger and bigger every month,  not smaller and smaller.

[QUOTE="asdasd"][QUOTE="MultiplateOwner"][QUOTE="asdasd"][QUOTE="jack244"][QUOTE="MultiplateOwner"][QUOTE="legol1"][QUOTE="MultiplateOwner"]

Hey people i am a new poster here at gamespot.

I wonted to talk about the 1080p res that is on the 360. I have a ps3 and a 360, and for some reason when i play games on my 360 in 1080p the games textures are blurry, ala nba street, and virtua tennis 3. and for some reason the games speed slows down a bit. With every game i play on my 360 in 1080p, it appears thatthe screen is just getting streched from a 720p res. upsclose it dosnt even look like the picture gets any better.

But when i play virtua tennis and nba street on my ps3, the games look crsip, and there is no slow down, and the game actually fits to the screen like it was a 720p game. and the game actually looks beter in 1080p. the only game that dose not look quite so good in 1080p is virtua fighter 4, which dose exactly what the 360 games are doing, looks blurry, and runs a lil slow. the same happened with sonic on ps3.

this is when i really thought of it, the ps3 is doing games in native 1080p while the 360 is doing games upscaled to 1080p. and games like vf5,and sonic on ps3 are also upscalling while games like vt3, nba street, nba 2k7, gthd, tekken dr, are all natively 1080. this puts me atthe conclusion that the 360 can not do true 1080p, but can blow up the picture to supportthe 1080p screen, but its being upscaled. But it seems like the ps3 was built for 1080p games, and can push that res natively, with no hassel atall.

also ps, did any one notcie while playing vt3 in 480p that the cutscens runs fast, but while playing the game in 720p, or 1080p the cutscens are very slow like there going in slow motion r somthing., this happens on both system.

MultiplateOwner

you know what i played obliveon on 1080i with my 360 and if i have a ps3 i couldnt do that because its only support 720p so much for the all mighty ps3 who supposed to support 1080p true hd hhahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

the scaling issue is a marketing stratagy by sony, for the time being they simply dont wont people upscaling dvds, with the ps3's scaler and comparing them to the lu ray drive movies that r in the ps3.. and another thing wjile playing oblivion in 1080i the pictre is still streached and not clear as playing the game in its native resolution 720p, wherethe game was built on.

and vt3, and nba street are not native 1080p on the 360, and they do not run at 60 frames on the 360, that is nearly impossible for the 360 to do with no hdmi, it cant run a 1080p game at 60 frames per sec, the only game this year that will deal this is nija gaiden sigma, which is built at 1080p native res, and runs at 60fps with self shodowing in real time, on the mighty big biss of them all ps3.

and jus because i have an 360 and a ps3, dose not mean i cannot side with one more, really seeing as i bought my ps3 after i got my xbox circle.

Wrong buddy, Virtual Tennis 3 and Nba Street Homecourt are NATIVE 1080p on 360, no HDMI needed. The developers themselves have confirmed this already damnet. No resolution for games is bound by HDMI thats just ****

Here are links to back you up :D

http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2007/02/07/eas-nba-street-homecourt-to-be-first-1080p-360-title/

http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/06/sega-virtua-tennis-3-brings-its-1080p-game-to-the-xbox-360/

first link states nba street runs at 30fps on the 360 at 1080p---u fail
and none of thouse games run 1080p threw componant, its all threw vga, like what im using for 360

Just because your TV doesnt support 1080p through componant , doesnt mean the game doesnt support it..

hush thats not what my post was about, its about the game running in 60fps, it clearly says 30fps

Make up your freaking mind dude?  Is it about 60FPS?  Or is it about native 1080p games being impossible on 360 without HDMI??

Did you just admit 1080p games via component is possible?  But 1080p via 60FPS via component is impossible?  LOL,  your a joke,  and have been royally owned constantly in this thread.

[QUOTE="PaintballinDude"]But blu rays sell 3:1lilrush

No it doesn't

Yes it does

http://ps3.qj.net/Blu-ray-outsells-HD-DVD-by-3-1/pg/49/aid/81597

ouchies what is he gonna say now.....

Im going to say,  i knew he was going to pull up 3 month old data...Paintballin said "bluray's sell 3:1"  and that's innacurate,  what he should have said is "Bluray outsold HD-DVD 2.5:1 in January"

Also, the figure 3:1 is wrong,  100 is not 3 times more then 38.36......100 is 2.5 times more then 38.36

Here is the main part from the article:

"The actual figures say that for the week ending January 7, for every 47.14 HD-DVDs movies sold, there are 100 Blu-Ray movies sold. But the gap is getting bigger, with the week ending January 14 providing statistics to show that the amount of HD-DVDs sold is more like 38.36 for every 100 Blu-Rays sold. These figures include only video sales and no games. "

So i ask,  why does this article site the week ending January 7th,  January 14th,  but not the week ending the 21st?  Hmm maybe because the gap got smaller the next week?

And from January - April there has been no numbers bragging about how BD is still outselling 3:1?  (was actually 2.5:1)

That was too easy 8)

Im winner of the internet

Is Blu-Ray better? Why?

Let the discussion begin....

online wtf?

http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/Exclusive_HD_Content/HDi/Universal/Microsoft/Online_Interactivity_to_Spearhead_Universals_2007_HD_DVD_Assault/523

Universal Studios Home Entertainment is betting that interactivity will boost HD DVD in its next-gen battle against Blu-ray, with the studio planning to release three major titles in 2007 with web-connected features.

While no HD DVD-supporting studios have yet taken advantage of the Ethernet capabilities found on all Toshiba first- and second-gen HD DVD players, that is due to change by year's end, when Universal will unveil three, as-yet-announced releases to take advantage of the format's web connectivity.

The news came courtesy of Kevin Collins, Microsoft's director of HD DVD evangelism, who outlined the studio's plans to Video Business. Microsoft, Toshiba and Universal have been the primary backers of the HD DVD format since it's launch last year.

"We are still scratching the surface of what we are capable of doing, but Universal is leading the format in terms of exploring all the different aspects that are out there now," said Collins. "By the holidays, there will be a lot more features."

To date, Blu-ray titles have featured relatively little interactivity, as its BD-Java technology is still being tweaked for implementation on future titles. Of course that hasn't stopped Blu-ray from taking the sales lead over HD DVD over the last two months, following the introduction of the Blu-ray enabled PS3 and a steady stream of new disc releases.

Hoping to reverse the trend, Universal will continue to promote existing HDi-based interactivity in the form of its "U-Control" feature on two key upcoming HD DVD titles, 'Children of Men,' due March 20, and 'Smokin' Aces,' which streets April 17. The studio promises features even more advanced than those seen on earlier "U-Control" titles such as last September's 'The Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift.'

On 'Children of Men,' viewers get a chance to see the film's featured video billboard advertisements in their entirety, with the HD DVD allowing users to click on each of the approximately ten billboards and watch the complete ads.

'Smokin' Aces,' meanwhile, will integrate Google Earth to identify specific locations of assassins during the film.

We'll keep you posted as Universal's HD DVD plans continue to heat up throughout the rest of the year.

A complete list of all currently-announced Universal titles can be found in our HD DVD Release Schedule. Stay tuned...
