I'm not sure if this topic is appropriate. I think it's worthy of discussion, so that is why I've created it, but I guess we'll see. If it gets too bad, please mods close the thread.

Now I know that many of you dislike Soulja Boy, so you will automatically think that I am dissing the wii. And you know, I'll be honest here, maybe I am, but regardless, I really do think there is a connection between Soulja Boy and Nintendo and therefore a number of similarities.
Â
First of all both of them are killing their respective industries. Nintendo is degenerating video game standards. Proof is self evident and can be seen in the GT user populace who truly believe that wii games like 'Wario Land: Shake it' and 'Blast Works: Build, Trade, Destroy' are games worthy of purchase this Christmas above the likes of gears2, R2, F3, fable 2, etc. I know all of you have noticed the decreased quality in mainstream music too and have experienced similar behavior in the outside world regarding Soulja Boy and his music. For Example, I dunno how many of you go to dances, but if you do go to dances, 'crank that' is STILL looped virtually every 20 minutes.
Â
Second, both of them made their respective industries more mainstream. Meaning, Soulja boy brought a bigger white crowd and Nintendo brought soccer moms, octogenarians, and other people who normally would not express any interest in video games. Some people might see this as a good thing. But I see this flux of new people as a force that will eventually saturate the industry in mediocrity.
Â
Third, Soulja Boy and Nintendo think that they are serious business. It's no secret that Soulja Boy takes himself seriously. He believes he is a real rapper and not the teeny bopper that he is. Nintendo too, is also too full of itself. To be fair, the wii does admittedly qualify as a console, but if you want to get a little more specific, it is really just a 'gamecube 1.5 with waggle'.
Â
Fourth, neither Soulja Boy nor Nintendo are producing variety in their industries. The idea is that Soulja Boy/Nintendo are appealing to new groups of people, and so, consequently, more people will be able to listen to what they want to hear. But in fact, this doesn't happen at all. Case in point Soulja Boy. His hit singles, 'crank dat', 'soulja girl', 'YAHH TRICK YAHH', have become so popular that they are what the majority have come to expect--phat beats with terribly dull monosyllabic word loops. As a result, other rappers that actually possess some talent are overshadowed and given no chance at all to compete. This isn't right.
Â
At the moment, Nintendo isn't outrightly influencing a change in the games that Microsoft and Sony are developing, if Soulja Boy is any indicator of Nintendo's future, oh boy do we have a lot to worry about. Another indicator of Nintendo's lack of variety is their past and future line. There are virtually no hardcore games and no innovation at all. Instead franchises are continuing to borrow on their past successes whil doing NOTHING new and no new IPs are being created. For example, Mario Kart and Brawl got even more watered down, and although galaxy, corruption, and twilight princess are pretty good games, they still feel like the exact same thing we played on the N64 and gamecube but with waggle now. I'm sorry, but except for the waggle, I fail to see the innovation in those games. As for the wii's future line up, the conduit looks lamer then the lamest fps on either the 360/ps3. Even 'Legendary' (the game nobody reviewed) looks more exciting then the conduit. And Madworld??? Are you kidding me?? You think over the top violence set in a cartoonish world is hardcore??
Â
I could go on and on, but this is getting long so I'll end it.
Â
tldr; Anyone else see the similarity between Nintendo and Soulja Boy and if you do, what do you think this bodes for our gaming future?
